US MASTERS 2017 PREVIEW

Played at the iconic and stunning Augusta National, the US Masters is the only major played at the same venue year after year. It is a huge stretch, so naturally Driving Distance is a key statistic for your masters betting

From 2011 to 2015 none of the winners were priced above 35/1. However, Danny Willett bucked the trend in 2016, winning at 80/1.

US MASTERS 2017 BETTING PREVIEW: TOP CONTENDERS

DUSTIN JOHNSON heads into Augusta with three consecutive victories. He has been firing on all cylinders since winning the US Open last year. Following that victory, Johnson has won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the BMW Championship and this year he was back in the winner’s circle claiming wins at the Genesis Open, the WGC-Mexico Championship and the WGC Dell Match Play. He finished in the top six in seven of the last eight events played. Tied 4th here last year, With his length and strength, he can easily account for Augusta National.

JORDAN SPIETH has been a consistent performer here in recent years, sandwiching his success in 2015 with runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2016. He won Down Under in November and he hacked up at the AT&T Pebble Beach in February but he's arguably been a bit disappointing since. He missed the cut last week at the Shell.

RORY McILROY is looking to win this tournament for the first time with his fourth-placed finish in 2015 his best showing at Augusta. The rib injury sustained in January in South Africa could prove to be a significant issue and not getting far at the WGC - Match Play was a frustration. In his two starts before the match play event, he started well in Mexico but didn't perform to his best over the weekend and then he started slowly at the Arnold Palmer Invitational before having a great weekend.

JASON DAY was last year's favourite on the back of wins at the Arnold Palmer and the Match Play but could only finish 10th. He has had injury and illness concerns in recent times, as well as questions surrounding the health of his mother.

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA already has four PGA Tour victories to his credit including this year’s Phoenix Open, he has been fifth and seventh at the Masters for the last two years and on his debut in 2011 finished as the tournament’s top amateur player.

RICKIE FOWLER is playing some unbelievable golf at just the right time. An opening round of 64, eight under Par, in the Shell Houston Open proves his game is in sublime form. Now ranked 9th in the World Rankings, he missed the cut here 12 months ago but T-5 and T-12 finishes the two years’ previous prove his game is well suited to the course.

BRANDT SNEDEKER has a very consistent Augusta record since finishing third in 2008. Since then, the Nashville native has added four more top-20 finishes in his seven appearances, finishing in the top 10 last year.

SHANE LOWRY was in a tie for 2nd in the Masters after the first round last year but a poor second round of 76 followed by a 79 put paid to his chances. Anyway, he finished T-2 in the US Open last year and could be the dark horse of the tournament.

SCOTT PIERCY is developing a reputation as a player capable of making a real splash at the big events. He has rewarded his each-way backers in recent years at both the US PGA Championship and the US Open, where he finished second to Dustin Johnson in 2016, while also occupying the runner-up berth at a couple of World Championship events. He has made the cut on both his Masters starts and broke into the top 30 last year.

DANNY WILLETT, The current defending champion, is not fancied by the bookies. Last year was his most successful on tour, winning the Masters, the Dubai Desert Classic, had a runner-up finish at the Italian Open and a third at the BMW. Earlier this year, he entered the final round of the Maybank Championship in Malaysia with a three-stroke advantage over the field.

PHIL MICKELSON is a three-time winner of the Masters and he does have a tendency to raise his game whenever a major tournament comes around. He still shows he can compete at the top-level having finished top-7 in the last two WGC events. Despite missed-cuts being as likely as high finishes, 2nd at last year's Open Championship showed he can still compete in the majors.

ADAM SCOTT has had a quiet but solid start to the season, making every cut but his best finish was T-10 in the CIMB Classic in October. He won the Masters back in 2013, beating Angel Cabrera in a play-off.

The 22-year-old JON RAHM bagged his first PGA Tour win back in January when he won the Farmers Insurance Open and since then he has been in scintillating form. He continued that last week, coming second to Dustin Johnson in the WGC Match Play tournament and has four top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season.

SOREN KJELDSEN has kept himself busy this year but looks to be hitting form at just the right time after a very good 5th place finish in the WGC Match Play event. Back in November, he won the World Cup of Golf with four fantastic rounds

DANIEL BERGER is a big hitter which is always a help at Augusta. He was T-10 on his first ever Masters appearance last year. His sole win came in the St. Jude Classic last year and he also agonisingly lost out to Padraig Harrington in a play-off in the Honda Classic.

The Young Korean BYEONG HUNG AN will be teeing it up at his third Masters this year. He has only won once on the European Tour, but that was of course at the Tour’s flagship BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Italian FRANCESCO MOLINARI has missed the last couple of Masters, but has had a best finish of 19th here, has been playing really solid on the PGA Tour with three top 10s including a 7th at the Arnold Palmer a couple of weeks back.

Perennial major contenders SERGIO GARCIA and HENRIK STENSSON will look to contend again despite quiet starts to the season while JUSTIN THOMAS, winner of the first two tournaments of 2017, could contend. Of course, two-time Masters winner BUBBA WATSON can't be ruled out at a bigger price while fellow Englishmen TYRRELL HATTON and MATTHEW FITZPATRICK have shown strong form stateside.
