TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 13 BETTING PREVIEW
The Massif Central doesn't have the same mammoth climbs as the Alps or Pyrenees, but it would be a tough day as well. The final climb comes at the end of a heavy day of climbing, with seven total climbs and 4,400 meters of ascent. There are bonus seconds available at both the top of the penultimate climb, the category two Col de Neronne, as well as the first category Puy Mary summit finish.
The trickiest part of this stage is the finish, which features two climbs in the last 15 kilometers - the Category 2 Col de Neronne (3.8 km at 9.1%) and the Pas de Peyrol (5.4 km at 8.1%).
Our Stage 13 Favorites
Julian Alaphilippe is one of the bookies' favorites but we can't see him winnin the stage. It's a tougher route than those he usually excels on.Thomas De Gendt is the regular pick but he doesn't seem able to make the difference like the past years.
Likely contenders are Alexey Lutsenko, David Gaudu, Lennard Kämna, Daniel Martinez, Neilson Powless, Tiesj Benoot, Nicolas Roche, Alessandro De Marchi and Omar Fraile.
Marc Hirschi, correctly predicted as winner in our Stage 12 betting preview, should be tired and should have a day off.
What about GC Contenders?
Another likely scenario would see GC contenders fighting for time bonuses on the final two climbs and, of course, for the stage win.If the break is not too far away, the relatively short Pas de Peyrol seems like an exce ideal ascent for some of the pure, fiery climbers like Tadej Pogacar, Mikel Landa or Miguel Angel Lopez to attack the Yellow Jersey.
But Primoz Roglic could also decide to attack rather than defend, aiming to spread the gap between him and his closest rivals in the General Classification.
Defending champion Egan Bernal has shipped 21 seconds to Primoz Roglic purely through bonus seconds. His form is rapidly improving but he loves longer climbs, so he will perhaps wait for the Alps. The same could be said for Nairo Quintana.
We would favour riders like Romain Bardet, Guillaume Martin and Richie Porte rather than the Colombian duo.
The likes of Alejandro Valverde, Thibaut Pinot and Daniel Martin have very few chances, considering their current form.
