TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW
The first 146km are relatively flat and fast, with a small category 3 climb at Cap de Coste. But things get interesting after the intermediate sprint. The finish climb consists of three cols in line actually.
- Col de Mouzères: 6.1 kilometres at 4.8%
- Col de la Lusette: 11.7 kilometres with slopes at 7.3%.
- Mont Aigoual: 8.3 kilometres at 4%.
The Col de la Lusette features an interesting section of 4 kilometres with an average gradient of almost 10%.
Although a GC battle is also on the cards, the route is tailor-made for a successful breakaway, expecially if Mitchelton or Jumbo Visma don't care for the win. Such a scenario would see a couple of riders likely to attack.
Our Stage 6 Favorites
Lotto-Soudal’s Thomas de Gendt has been saving energy for several days now as well as CCC's Alessandro De Marchi. This two have enough stamina and climbing skills to be successful in this kind of stage. The likes of Lennard Kamna, Nicolas Roche, Alexey Lutsenko, Kasper Asgreen, Warren Barguil and Greg Van Avermaet also look suited for this one.
Other riders to keep an eye on are Jesus Herrada, Ben Hermans and Davide Formolo, although the Italian is still to close to the Yellow Jersey and could not have the green light to attack.
Should any breakaway fail to escape, GC contenders could win this stage too.
In that case, Primoz Roglic, Tadej Pogacar, Adam Yates and Thibaut Pinot would be the best options to back.
Julian Alaphilippe lost his Yellow Jersey yesterday after commissaires penalized him 20 seconds for accepting a water bottle from a team staffer late in the race, when feeds are illegal. We expect him trying to win the intermediate sprint (8 seconds bonus) and fighting for not losing time on the final ascent.
Nairo Quintana, Egan Bernal and Tom Dumoulin could perform well on the Col de la Lusette but are likely to be caught from the rest of the GC contenders as the summit is more than 14km away from the finish line. In a reduced sprint, they will have no chance to win the stage.
Any intriguing long-shot?
Sergio Higuita has been very quiet so far but we expect the Colombian to show his potential sooner or later. Max Schachmann would be a very dangerous rider should he be 100% fit. Alejandro Valverde and Marc Hischi should not be overlooked either.TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 ODDS
