Tour De France Stage 12 Betting Preview
With a single third-category climb on the menu, this should be a day for the sprinters. But after an epic stage like yesterday's one, sprinters' depleted teams will not have a lot of energies to chase the breakaway. Plus, the final 28 kilometers might see crosswinds that could cause some real damage.Teams like Deceuninck-QuickStep would be quick to take advantage of the situation.
Stage 12 Favourites
Regardless of the variables, Mark Cavendish is the obvious favourite having already won three sprints thus far. If Mørkøv can drop him off with 150m to go nobody will be able to stop the Brit to tie Eddy Merckx's record for career stage wins at the Tour. Plus, he will not fear crosswinds as he rides for team Deceuninck-Quickstep, the specialist in terms of navigating the echelons.Jasper Philipsen, Nacer Bouhanni and Mads Pedersen look the only riders able to worry the Manx Missile on a sprint, while Peter Sagan would be an interesting option with testing conditions such as rain or strong winds.
Wout van Aert will be a wildcard; he looked brilliant when second to Cavendish on Tuesday but expended a lot of energy to win on Tuesday after two trips up Mont Ventoux.
Long shots?
Sonny Colbrelli,Oliver Naesen, Christophe Laporte, Michael Matthews, Cees Bol, Greg Van Avermaet, Alex Aranburu, Magnus Cort Nielsen and Jasper Stuyven are surely beaten in a sprint, and may consider their best opportunity to lie in the breakaway.Other breakway hopefuls could be Søren Kragh-Andersen, Kasper Asgreen, Lukas Postlberger, Edward Theuns, Brent Van Moer and Stefan Kung.
