Tour De France Stage 19 Betting Preview
Almost immediately, the peloton will face the Cote de Bareille, the only categorised climb of the stage. Undulating terrain follows, which carries the riders to the intermediate sprint in Saint-Sever at kilometre 54, on a 1.5km hill that will suit Michael Matthews and Sonny Colbrelli. After that sprint, the road flattens. Crosswinds might play a role but teams are tired, depleted and without energies and depth required to create echelons.
The approach to the finish in Libourne is very straightforward but the last kilometre is very slightly uphill.
With just over 1,000 metres of climbing on the cards, it’s unlikely to be a GC stage. It should finish in a bunch sprint, assuming they’ve reeled all of those escapees back in.
Stage 19 Favourites
Mark Cavendish is the clear favorite for stage 19. The Brit has already won three stages, thanks to the dominant Deceuninck-QuickStep lead-out train. If he takes stage victory in Libourne, the Manx Missile will break Eddy Merckx’ Tour de France stage victory record. There aren’t a whole lot of sprinters left in this field to challenge Cavendish, since Caleb Ewan and Arnaud Demare were forced to retire after few stages.
Jasper Philipsen and Wout van Aert are the guys that will eye Cavendish’s wheel, as Nacer Bouhanni has recently left the race.
Sonny Colbrelli and Michael Matthews will likely be in the mix as well, but they will have podium ambitions at maximum.
Other riders with a chance in a sprint finish include Cees Bol, Danny van Poppel, Cristophe Laporte and André Greipel.
Any chance for a breakaway?
Riders are drained of energy after three weeks of racing. Hence, Classic hunters such as Greg Van Avermaet, Jasper Stuyven, Stephan Bissegger, Kasper Asgreen, Mike Teunissen, Oliver Naesen, Brent Van Moer, Thomas De Gendt, Nils Politt and Stefan Küng might join forces and try to upset the sprinters.Other riders that can't be ruled out are Philippe Gilbert, Magnus Cort Nielsen, Michael Valgren, Luka Mezgec and Max Walscheid.
