Tour De France Stage 21 Betting Preview

The day always starts with some ceremony to honor the winners, but also every rider who manages to finish.

The pace will get pretty hot as the peloton approaches Paris. The riders enter the finishing circuit based on Place de la Concorde, the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe with 56km remaining and begin the first of eight laps.

The chance for a bunch sprint, of course, are very high. For four consecutive years Mark Cavendish was the fastest sprinter in Paris, but that was awhile ago in the period 2009-2012. In subsequent years Marcel Kittel (2013, 2014), André Greipel (2015, 2016), Dylan Groenewegen (2017), Alexander Kristoff (2018), Caleb Ewan (2019), and Sam Bennett (2020) powered to victory.

Some alterations to the road layout just before the final straight have encouraged the race organizers have moved the finish line roughly 300 meters farther up the Champs from the last corner.

Will this alteration favour Mark Cavendish or other riders?

Stage 21 Favourites

The eyes will be on green jersey Mark Cavendish as he bids to win on the Champs-Elysees for a record-extending fifth time. Should the Brit win this stage, he will break the all-time record for Tour De France stage victories (35) and, of course, will secure his points classification lead. Michael Mørkøv and Davide Ballerini will be pivotal in positioning Cavendish in the final metres.

Actually, Cavendish has not so many opponents remaining after Arnaud Demare, Caleb Ewan, Peter Sagan, and many more

The likes of Jasper Philipsen and Wout Van Aert look the only two riders able to worry Isle of Man native.

Team Alpecin-Fenix has been decimated by a series of crashes, so Philipsen should take Cavendish. The Belgian champ has won Saturday's individual time trial and could be a bit tired. Plus, he would not take risk as he is one of the favourite to win the Olympics.

These three riders are likely to fill the first three position in case of bunch sprint.

Mads Pedersen, Christophe Laporte and Danny van Poppel have a slim chance to finish on the podium.

Other sprint candidates are Cees Bool, Michael Matthews, Sonny Colbrelli and Andrè Greipel.

Can any attacker upset the sprinter?

There are sure to be concerted efforts by breakaway groups to escape the shackles of the peloton in the hopes of stealing away to contest one of the most prestigious of stage victories. Bar a series of exceptional mishaps, any attacks will be caught and the sprint teams will lead the sprinters to the line.

Riders such as Oliver Naesen, Greg Van Avermaet, Jasper Stuyven, Mike Teunissen, Kasper Asgreen, Michael Cort Nielsen, Nils Polit, Luka Mezgec and Michal Kwiatkowski are the possible attackers in the final kilometers.
