ATLETICO MADRID v BARCELONA BETTING PREVIEW
Atletico Madrid have been in a fine form since mid-December, having lost just one of their last 11 games in all competitions and recording 7 wins and 3 draws in the process. Anyway, they were held to a goalless draw by Deportivo Alaves at the weekend, extending the capital club's winless run to three matches in all competitions. They find themselves fourth spot, 10 points back of leaders Real Madrid in La Liga table.
Centre-back Jose Gimenez picked up a thigh injury while captain Diego Godin was embroiled in a spitting controversy last time out, and he could be in trouble if the action was deliberate. Stefan Savic will fill the void as centre back, while Juanfran and Filipe Luis are likely to start as right and full backs. Diego Simeone is expected to fieal an offensive side with Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gamiero spearheading the attack, Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco and Saul Niguez as wingers.
Barcelona have only won two of their last five away games in all competitions. Luis Suarez scored a last-minute equaliser to salvage a point for Barcelona in their 1-1 draw with Real Betis at the weekend. Anyway, the Blaugrana had a clear goal disallowed as the main referee could not see that the ball was well behind the line. This means that the Catalans are now four points behind their arch-rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga standings.
Midfielders Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets are major doubts while Rafinha has returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury. This will see Javier Mascherano moving to midfield, starting with Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes in the middle of the park. Full-back Lucas Digne is also out with left-knee discomfort. The attacking trio - Messi, Suarez and Neymar - will remain unchanged.
Luis Enrique's men have such a dominant (9-1-1) head-to-head record with the Colochoneros over the last few seasons. The teams have met four times in 2016, and Barcelona won the first two direct matches at Camp Nou (2-1 in January's La Liga clash and 2-1 in the 1st leg of Champions League Quarter-finals), Atletico Madrid went on to win the Quarter-finals with a 2-0 home victory and earn a league draw (1-1) at Camp Nou back in September.
