ATLETICO MADRID vs REAL MADRID BETTING PREVIEW
Atletico Madrid are winless in the last four matches at home ground and are coming off a 1-0 away win over Deportivo La Coruna before the International break. That victory followed three consecutive 1-1 draw both in La Liga and Champions League, respectively against Villarreal, Elche and Qarabag. Domestically, Diego Simeone's men are level on points with Real Madrid after eleven matches but they trail Barcelona by 8 lenghts. The Colchoneros have the second best defensive record in the league, which includes six clean sheets in their last nine league games. The main woes this term have come in Europe where the Colchoneros are on the verge of suffering an unexpected elimination from the Champions League.
Koke and Filipe Luis should start in midfield and left back respectively, after getting back fit over the course of the international break. The likes of Gabi, Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey will complete the four man midfield while Juanfran, Stefan Savic and Diego Godin will feature from the off at the back. Up front, Angel Correa should be preferred to Kevin Gameiro in Atleti's front two alongside Antoine Griezmann while Yannick Carrasco remain a doubt.
Real Madrid also begin the weekend eight points behind leaders Barcelona, although they returned to winning ways last time out against Las Palmas, 3-0 courtesy of goals from Casemiro, Marco Asensio, and Isco. Prior to that, the Blancos suffered losses at Girona (2-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (3-1) on their last two away days, conceding five goals in the process. In Champions League, they are fighting with Tottenham to finish top of the table. Real Madrid won only one of their last eight games at Atletico and the most recent derby saw Zinedine Zidane's men suffering a 2-1 loss at the old Vicente Calderon.
Gareth Bale and Mateo Kovacic remain sidelined through long-term injuries. Keylor Navas is ruled out through a groin injury, and that will see Kiko Casilla starting between the posts once again. Raphael Varane and Dani Carvajal are both available and should feature from the off in the four man backline, alongside Sergio Ramos and Marcelo. Up front, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo should lead the line, with Isco starting in behind after recovering from a knock picked up on international duty.
