So, who are the leading contenders for the 2020 Sports Personality of the Year?
He’s the lineal world heavyweight champion and his story is just as remarkable as that seventh round TKO, returning after a battle with depression and drug abuse.
He’s 9/10 with 888sport to win Sports Personality of the Year and the current favourite.
One thing to watch will be the reports that a farmer claims he was paid £25,000 to state he had supplied wild boar meat containing nandrolone to Fury and his brother Hughie, but hadn’t actually done so.
Should this saga rumble on it could have a hugely detrimental effect on the Gypsy King’s career, particularly if the farmer’s claims turn out to be true. Team Fury are strongly denying any wrongdoing.
He’s currently priced at 6/1 with Paddy Power, although the season has been interrupted somewhat by COVID-19.
At present the season is expected to begin at the end of May, with the Australian Grand Prix cancelled and a series of others being postponed.
It is likely that the season will begin before the end of the year though, which puts Hamilton in with a chance of SPOTY once again.
As long as the Premier League season does finish, the title race is a foregone conclusion with the Reds 25 points clear.
Henderson has been instrumental in that and as the captain is a very good punt for Sports Personality of the Year, particularly if Liverpool fans vote in their numbers.
He’s 16/1 with Betfair which offers great value and he certainly looks well placed to finish in the top three.
While no date is in place for the pair to fight, although it is believed that they could go head-to-head by the end of the year, most bookmakers are backing Fury to come out on top. He’s 4/9 to beat Joshua, with AJ priced at 13/8.
Should Joshua get the way, that would dramatically shift the 22/1 odds BetVictor are currently offering and place him ahead of Fury, as he would hold all the belts.

SPOTY BETTING TIPS
While we’ve seen some breathtaking performances across boxing, football and snooker, the postponement of the Olympic Games and European Championships until 2021 is also likely to have a huge influence on SPOTY odds, with Dina Asher-Smith, Adam Peaty and Laura Kenny drifting. So, who are the leading contenders for the 2020 Sports Personality of the Year?
Tyson Fury
It’s fair to say that if SPOTY was to take place today, Tyson Fury would walk away with the crown having produced a truly phenomenal performance against Deontay Wilder to win the WBC and Ring Magazine titles. He’s the lineal world heavyweight champion and his story is just as remarkable as that seventh round TKO, returning after a battle with depression and drug abuse.
He’s 9/10 with 888sport to win Sports Personality of the Year and the current favourite.

Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is always there or thereabouts when it comes to SPOTY and with the British F1 star set to break plenty of records across the forthcoming season he’ll be among the favourites once again.
Jordan Henderson
Football is completely on hold at the moment, but the hard work has certainly been done by Jordan Henderson and his Liverpool side.As long as the Premier League season does finish, the title race is a foregone conclusion with the Reds 25 points clear.
Henderson has been instrumental in that and as the captain is a very good punt for Sports Personality of the Year, particularly if Liverpool fans vote in their numbers.
He’s 16/1 with Betfair which offers great value and he certainly looks well placed to finish in the top three.
Anthony Joshua
While Anthony Joshua is down the pecking order, with Tyson Fury the number one name in heavyweight boxing at the moment, a fight between the two this year could change that. While no date is in place for the pair to fight, although it is believed that they could go head-to-head by the end of the year, most bookmakers are backing Fury to come out on top. He’s 4/9 to beat Joshua, with AJ priced at 13/8.
