The summer and January transfer windows are often the most exciting time when it comes to football.

There’s a renewed sense of hope with every major signing and entire campaigns can rest on what business has been done.

For punters it’s another brilliant opportunity to earn a prize pot with betting on transfers becoming a popular wager.

This article contains our ultimate guide on transfer betting!

Betting on Transfers - Potential 2023 Summer Targets

With another season of domestic football now over, the transfer window is hotting up for clubs all over Europe.

Below, you’ll see the most important transfer updates and news for the 2023 window, although the wagers you ultimately make are completely up to you.

Harry Kane  Harry Kane has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer. The Tottenham talisman, who enters the last year of his six-year deal with the club that runs until 2024, has been linked with Manchester UTD, Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich have emerged as the early frontrunners for the England skipper with the club still looking for a proper Lewandowski's replacement after the Pole left the Bavarians last summer.

Harry Kane Next Club

Kylian Mbappè Kylian Mbappé has recently informed PSG that he won't trigger the option to extend his contract. His decision could force the team to pursue a sale of his rights this summer as the French champions do not want to let the 24-year-old go on a free when his contract runs out next year.

Real Madrid are the main candidates to buy Kylian Mbappè. The club's plan is for the Frenchman to be the first player to appear at the new Bernabéu.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana is Manchester United's prime target after David De Gea's contract expired at the end of June. The Inter milan custodian played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and is highly regarded for his ball-playing abilities as well as his shot-stopping.

Man UTD have a tight budget after signing Mason Mount and can't go above £40M (the asking price is £50-60M).

Al Nassr is another potential destination for the Cameroon goalkeeper but we believe the Red Devils will find an extra budget to sign Onana this summer (Inter Milan need money to acquire Romelu Lukaku).

Declan Rice

Arsenal have reportedly put a move for Declan Rice as they are in the market for a new midfielder with veteran Granit Xhaka expected to leav the club this summer. But the Premier League runner-ups are not the only club interested in the England international, with Manchester United also believed to be eyeing the West Ham midfielder.

Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian is turning down all the offers, from Saudi Arabia clubs to AC Milan. He only wants Inter Milan and our feeling is that at the end of the summer Big Rom will wear the "Nerazzurro" once again. The Serie A club should find enough funds by selling Andrè Onana to Man UTD.

Looking for more football transfer odds?

Bookmakers are taking bets on the next club of the following footballers:
Neymar, James Ward-Prowse, Lautaro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Sadio Manè, David De Gea, Jadon Sancho, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Romeo Lavia, Bernardo Silva, Victor Osimhen, Louis Zaha, and many more!

Biggest Summer 2023 Transfers Completed

Manchester United have signed Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55m plus £5m potential add-ons while Arsenal have purchased Kai Havertz with a £65M deal.

Liverpool have signed Dominic Szobozlai and Alexis Mac Allister while Man City purchased Mateo Kovacic form Chelsea (£30M), who will replace Ilkay Gundongan who has moved to Barcelona on a free transfer. The have also lost Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N'Golo Kantè but they have already brought in Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Kendry Paez.

Other notable transfers are James Maddison to Tottenham (£40m), Sandro Tonali to Newcastle (£55m), Guglielmo Vicario to Tottenham (£17m).

What Is Betting On Transfers?

Betting on transfers is a relatively simple concept to understand and is ultimately a wager on the movement of players to a different club.

It’s a growing market with some of the top UK bookmakers leading the way with new and exciting ways to bet.

You can get some serious odds with this market but of course in many cases it is high risk. After all, how many players get linked with moves or see transfers collapse each and every year?

More often than not, the market will require a punter to bet on the next club of a player, with this type of wager usually found in the Transfer Specials or Specials section of a bookmakers’ site.

Of course, you’ll find odds on transfers are much more readily available around the transfer window periods, with the likes of September and October, for example, much quieter.

Which Bookmakers Can I Bet On Transfers With?

You’ll find most online bookmakers will offer transfer betting markets these although some will be more expansive than others.

The more forward thinking sites like Paddy Power and Ladbrokes tend to have the largest number or markets, while Coral are also particularly good for offering markets on player movement.

There tends to be some element of truth in the transfer rumour as no bookmaker could offer every move that has been suggested by a newspaper, but it’s well worth doing your research before making any bet.

The markets tend to vary, with ‘Next Club’ being most popular. However, there are also opportunities to bet on players leaving a club in the next transfer window, without you having to predict the next club.

Different Types of Transfer Betting Markets

There are not so many betting markets when we bet on football transfers. Actually, there are usually three markets available:

Player Changes Team (YES/NO)

It's a simple bet since you only have two options. You just have to predict whether a player changes team during the transfer window. Of course, the odds involved are pretty low

Player's Next Club

One player, many teams. And you have to guess the player's next team. The bookie will usually provide different odds for each team, according to the likelyhood the players will move to that particular club.

Team's Next Purchase

Very similar to the Player's Next Team market, but simply reverse. The bookmaker provides a list of players linked to a specific team and you must choose which one will be the next signing for the said team.

European Transfer Windows

Most of the betting activity around transfers of course takes place during the transfer window, but the periods in which clubs can do so vary across Europe.

For England and the Premier League, the transfer market reopened on Wednesday, June 14, though most international deals and free transfers will not go through until July 1.

The window will then run until 11pm on Friday, September 1 in line with other European leagues.

The winter window will run throughout January (Jan. 1 to Jan. 31) as usual.

Below you’ll find a full list of opening and closing dates across Europe’s biggest leagues…

Betting on Transfers: Top Tips

Betting on transfers can be one of the hardest markets to play. If it’s a well-known fact a player is going to move to a club, then the odds on doing so will be very low. If it’s more of a long shot, the chances of the move happening are very low. So it’s finding the right balance in this market.

Players out of contract in the summer are always worth a bet in the previous two windows as clubs will look to cash in instead of letting them walk away from the club for free, so it’s worth listening to the rumours in this case.

Building up a little portfolio of reliable tipsters is also useful. Journalists who have close ties to a football club or have been in the game a long time usually have better sources and therefore make the move more likely to happen.

Additionally, reading more reliable news sites will also hold you in better stead. The BBC and The Guardian are of course more reliable than the Daily Mail or Mirror for example.

The number of transfer rumour articles that appear in the weeks before and during the transfer window are phenomenal. It’s about sifting through the rubbish to find the gold.

Best Transfer Betting Promotions

A good way to ensure you’re not risking your own money is by making the most of the various betting offers bookmakers give you.

Some of our favourite bookmakers have a wide range of offers from welcome bonuses to no deposit free bets, many of which can be used on this market.

They’re well worth taking up as betting on transfers continues to be one of the toughest markets to play. However, get it right and you’ll be in with a great chance of a prize pot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Deadline Day

The final day of any of the transfer windows is referred to as ‘deadline day'. Deadline day has become a spectacle for fans of Premier League clubs who will often have one eye on their television, phone, tablet or computer waiting to see who their club buys or sells throughout the day.
