Who Will Replace Mauricio Pochettino? 4 Favourites To Replace The German

Recent reports suggest that Chelsea has compiled a shortlist of four potential candidates to replace Pochettino. This includes Kieran McKenna from Ipswich Town, Enzo Maresca from Leicester City, Thomas Frank from Brentford, and an undisclosed fourth contender, adding an intriguing element of mystery to the mix.

Enzo Maresca has emerged as a strong contender for the managerial role at Stamford Bridge. Having guided Leicester City to the Championship title in his debut season as manager, Maresca's impressive achievements come at a price. It would cost a hefty £7.5 million to release him from his current contract at the King Power Stadium.

After Pochettino bid farewell, the odds-on favorite for the job, former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, has now slipped to second place in the bookmakers' rankings. Speculation has been rife about the Italian manager's future, with potential destinations across Europe, including whispers of a potential move to Manchester United if Erik ten Hag's situation remains unclear.

De Zerbi's possession-based style of play undeniably aligns with Chelsea's vision for attractive football. A move to Stamford Bridge would see him follow in the footsteps of his Brighton predecessor, Graham Potter, who unfortunately faced the axe after a short stint. However, if Chelsea opts to secure De Zerbi's services, they will need to grapple with the compensation fees involved.

Another notable name in the mix is Kieran McKenna, who has been linked to the vacant Chelsea post. However, he garners more attention in the betting market as the next potential manager for Brighton. McKenna, the Ipswich boss, has achieved a fantastic feat by guiding Ipswich to consecutive promotions into the Premier League after a drought spanning two decades.

Thomas Frank also features on Chelsea's managerial shortlist, but he is also receiving interest from Manchester United. Since 2016, Frank has been at the helm of Brentford, initially as an assistant until he took charge in 2018. Despite operating on a shoestring budget compared to their wealthier counterparts, Frank has successfully maintained Brentford's Premier League status for three consecutive campaigns, even achieving a remarkable ninth-place finish.

Other candidates for Chelsea job

Potential contenders for the vacant managerial position at Chelsea FC have sparked intrigue and speculation. Among the mysterious figures being considered is Ruben Amorim, the current coach of Sporting Lisbon. Previously rumored as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Amorim has recently secured Sporting's second league title since joining the club in 2020. Tackling a 19-year wait for the championship in the 2020/21 season, Amorim's accomplishments also include triumphs in the Taca De Liga on two occasions and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2021.

Another intriguing option is the former Chelsea player, Cesc Fabregas, who has successfully managed Italian Serie B team Como, leading them to promotion for the upcoming Serie A campaign.

Though some may consider Jose Mourinho as a dark horse contender, his odds have drifted to 25/1. The "Special One", who led Chelsea to three Premier League titles during his two stints at the club, has been without a managerial position since departing AS Roma earlier this year.

Long shots?

Thomas Tuchel's recent dismissal from Bayern Munich has made him available for potential opportunities. Notably, the German guided Chelsea to a memorable 1-0 victory in the Champions League final against Manchester City in Porto in May 2021. Anyway, he only lasted seven games of the 2022/23 season before he was sacked, ending a 20-month spell in charge of the Blues.

The imminent departure of Erik ten Hag from his current role at Manchester United makes him a viable candidate for the Chelsea managerial spot.

While their chances may be seen as long shots, Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers, and Xavi Hernandez could also be potential contenders. Conversely, the likelihood of Michel Sanchez (Girona), Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart), and former Germany manager Hansi Flick securing the position appear rather slim in our opinions.

Next Chelsea Manager Predictions

Here at BetAndSKill HQ our experts have analysed all the possibile candidates since Mauricio Pochettino announced that he left the club by mutual consent.

We believe that Enzo Maresca is a genuine favorite and we back him to take the job at Stamford Bridget.

Cesc Fabregas is a romantic option and, in our opinion, the former Chelsea midfielder has more chances to replace Mauricio Pochettino than Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna.

What have Chelsea achieved under Mauricio Pochettino?

Despite spending over £1 billion in the transfer market in the last two years, Chelsea's season fell short of a top-four finish. However, they did manage to make it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the final of the League Cup. The first half of the campaign was particularly turbulent for the London club, as they languished in the bottom half of the table for much of the season.

Due to Manchester United's surprising victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup Final, Chelsea will now be competing in the Europa Conference League. This left Newcastle United without a spot in European football.
