The Toffees have lost nine out of their last 12 league games, plummeting from fourth in the table at the start of October to 16th. As a result, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has officially been sacked as Everton manager after a disastrous six-month spell in charge at Goodison Park.
A disappointing defeat agains Brighton and a dismal loss at Norwich City on Saturday - either side of a narrow FA Cup win over Hull City - proved to be Benitez's final acts in charge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the board is now "considering a two candidates shortlist to find a replacement".
There are already several names linked to the job and Roberto Martinez is currently favourite to take the vacant Everton job.
It would be a second spell in charge for the current Belgium boss, with Coral offering 6/4 for the return of Martinez.
Wayne Rooney has made an interesting start to his managerial career at Derby County, keeping them in the Championship last season in a final day shootout with Sheffield Wednesday and mounting an unlikely survival bid this season as the Rams are somehow not rock bottom of the Championship after 26 games despite a minus 21-point deduction this season.
Wazza is 7/2 with BetVictor to return to his childhood club as new manager.
Dark horses?
Another former Toffees' striker in Duncan Ferguson is well within a shot as he did an excellent job as caretaker manager in the past. Anyway, latest reports suggest the Goodison Park legend would only be put in temporary charge once again.
Frank Lampard is out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea last season but he is reportedly hungry to get back into management. He was previously linked with the Norwich job before Dean Smith was appointment and wants to get back in the dugout.
Graham Potter, who guided Brighton to ninth in the Premier League this season, is highly regarded by the board but he wouldn't be a particular popular options with the fans. The current Seagulls' manager is 14/1 with Betfred to move to Merseyside.
Other candidates are Slaven Bilic, Paulo Fonseca, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rudi Garcia, Lucien Favre and Niko Kovac.
Next Manager To Be Sacked
Next Manager Sacked betting is an incredibly popular market throughout the season with more and more bookies offering it to fans.
With a number of bookmakers it may be phrased differently with the market labelled as ‘Next Manager to Leave Post’ meaning it doesn’t necessarily just apply to sackings but also resignations and retirements.
So while you might want to bet on Next Permanent Everton Manager, you would also find odds for the next Premier League manager sacked for example. You’ll find this across a range of clubs with a number of bookmakers with Claudio Ranieri now odds-on favorite to be the next manager to leave post.
