BRAZIL v CHILE BETTING PREVIEW
Brazil, meanwhile, topped Group A after wins over Croatia and Cameroon, plus a goalless draw against Mexico. While collecting seven points and topping their group, the hosts were not as convincing as coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would surely have been hoping or expecting.
Scolari must surely start with the lineup that began the second-half against Cameroon to strengthen the midfield. Paulinho, Hulk and Fred have all come in for criticism, though the former may be the only one to miss out, with Fernandinho his replacement.
Chile came in second in their tough group, which included 2010 champion Spain and Holland. Their defense led them to a win over Spain, they easily won against Australia and their game against Holland lost by 2 goals was a closer match than the scoreline showed, as the Chileans hit posts, found openings, and generally looked dangerous almost as often as the Dutch.
Arturo Vidal shoul return to the starting line-up at the expense of Felipe Gutierrez having been rested last time out. Gary Medel is expected to be fit so, with no fresh injury concerns, Jorge Sampaoli should name the same side that beat Spain earlier in the competition. The front pairing of Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez and Napoli’s Eduardo Vargas have been on fire and will lead the attack.
In 15 matches between these two South American squads, Brazil have 13 wins, one loss and one draw. The Selecao are unbeaten against their South American rivals since a World Cup qualifier in 2000 and have won 10 of their last 12 meetings with La Roja. Four years ago the teams met in the last 16 in South Africa and Brazil won comfortably 3-0.
