CHAMPION BUMPER BETTING PREVIEW
The Weatherbys Champion Bumper concludes the second day of racing at the Cheltenham Festival. It's a Grade 1 National Hunt flat race run over two miles and half a furlong, for horses aged four to six. Because this is a flat race, also know as a 'bumper', it rather obviously doesn’t feature any jumps. A great contest to watch for future reference, with unexposed horses from UK and Ireland clashing for the first time for this prestigious prize.
This race always produces a crop of exciting hurdlers for next season and has been dominated by the Irish trainers, and particularly Willie Mullins, down the years. With big prices available for a lot of horses because with so little form on offer, online bookmakers and punters often find it hard to pick out a favourite.
And now we take a closer look at this year's Weatherbys Champion Bumper and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Champion Bumper 2024?
JASMIN DE VAUX, who won on his debut at Naas in January when sent off the odds-on favourite, is at the top of the betting for Willie Mullins.Gordon Elliott's JALON D'OUDAIRIES is unbaten in two starts. He has won twice on galloping, right-handed and left-handed tracks, most recently at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival.
The Paul Nicholls' runner TEESHAN is a chaser in the making, as proved when he comfortable landed on his debut under rules. He followed that up with a win at Exeter and hacked up without being asked too many questions.
YOU OUGHTA KNOW beat Croke Park on debut at Kilbeggan back in May, before following up at the Galway Festival. On his return to action at the Dublin Racing Festival, he finished runner-up to the impressive Jereboam Machin.

Dark horses?
ARGENTO BOY looked a decent prospect when scoring on his racecourse bow at Fairyhouse in January. He is joined by CANTICO in carrying the Al Boum Photo silks here. This Willie Mullins' charge opened his account at the second time of asking at Navan on heavy going few weeks ago. Mullins has also entered C'EST TA CHANCE, who ran a cracker at Navan in January, and FLEUR AU FUSIL, a mare who is 2-2 under rules after scoring at Naas and Leopardstown.Gordon Elliott's ROMEO COOLIO, a £420k purchase on the back of a point win, got off to the perfect start under Rules when scoring at Fairyhouse in January, while Jonjo O'Neill's BILL JOYCE, a £250,000 buy, is now 2-2 under Rules after wins at Warwick and Exeter.
Elliott's also has THE YELLOW CLAY, a double wiinner of bumpers at Leopardstown and Limerick last spring, who was last seen at last month's Dublin Racing Festival when he finished fourth in a Grade 2.
Other runners with Top 3 ambitions are Nicky Henderson's KINGSTONE PRIDE, SIXMILEBRIDGE for Ben Pauling, SOUNDS VICTORIOUS and FISHERY LANE (another two entries for the Mullins camp), Dan Skelton's ROYAL INFANTRY, and TRIPOLI FLYER for Fergal O'Brien.
At the moment, the most backed horses are the following:
