GALLAGHER NOVICES HURDLE BETTING PREVIEW
The Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle (name Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle last year) will open day two of the Cheltenham Festival. The race has changed sponsor many times in recent years, as it had also been known as the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle. The contest is a Grade 1 hurdle race covering two miles and five furlongs, for horses aged four years and upwards. It is one of the best novice hurdle races of the season and usually brings together some of the best up and coming horses.
In the last ten years alone we have seen the likes of Faugheen, The New One, Simonsig, Samcro and Yorkhill stride to victory in the Gallagher.
And now we take a closer look at this year's Gallagher Novices' Hurdle and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Gallagher Novices Hurdle 2024?
BALLYBURN heads the market having produced some impressive displays in recent times. He blitzed the field in the Grade 1 Tattersalls Ireland 50th Derby Sale Novice Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival. The six-year-old won by a seven-length margin over the 2m distance that day, leaving behind him a couple of notable horses.
ILE ATLANTIQUE bolted up on his first start over hurdles at Gowran and lost little in defeat when headed close home by Readin Tommy Wrong in the Grade One Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle few weeks ago. He looks to have solid prospects in the race.
PREDATORS GOLD was last seen when he chased home stablemate Dancing City at the Dublin Racing Festival over 2m6f in the Nathanial Lacey. Prior to that he won a bumper on good/soft and then stepped up from 2m to nearly 3m around Christmas, finishing 2nd to Caldwell Potter.
Dark Horses?
HANDSTANDS is unbeaten so far over hurdles and very much in the mold of Ben Pauling's previous Willoughby Court, he can play a big part in the finish here.
Willie Mullins has also entered JIMMY DU SEUIL and MERCUREY while JINGKO BLUE is a big improver and also comes here with top 3 ambitions.
At the moment, the most backed horses are the following:
