HAYE vs GJERGJAJ: BETTING PREVIEW
David Haye (27-2 25KO’s) made his return to the ring in January, beating another unknown fighter in Marc De Mori in his first fight since undergoing career-ending shoulder surgery, knocking him out in the first round with realtive ease. A win on Saturday would set up a potential showdown later on the year with Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs who is fighting on the undercard. Haye's solitary stoppage loss, against Carl Thompson at cruiserweight, was well over a decade ago. On that occasion he simply ran out of steam, a mistake that is unlikely to be repeated again. His other defeat in the paid ranks came on points against Wladimir Klitschko in 2011
Even as he approaches 36 in October, nine of Haye’s last 10 wins have come by knockout. Since pairing up with Shane McGuigan - son of legendary Irish boxer, Barry McGuigan - Haye has trimmed down to a lean 224lbs and has truly utilised the speed in his arsenal.
Arnold Gjergjaj (29-0 21KO’s) is still unbeaten and he is a top 15 ranked Heavyweight WBO (#14). Anyway, he only once has he fought outside of Switzerland and his one notable opponent is Denis Bakhtov. In that match, the 31-year-old Kosovan hauled himself off the canvas to scrape a win and that is hardly impressive when you consider Anthony Joshua destroyed Bakhtov in just 4 minutes in his 9th professional outing!
'The Cobra' – who has a fear of snakes – is a gym owner and shelf-stacker at his brother's convenience store, but there is no doubt his upbringing prepares him for a battle with Haye. It will however be fascinating to see if he can expose or highlight any loss of speed Haye may have suffered during his recent bulking up.
