DJOKOVIC v NADAL BETTING PREVIEW
Djokovic is undefeated on clay so far, winning titles in Monte Carlo and Rome. In Monte Carlo he beat Nadal in two straight sets (6-3, 6-3). The Serb has been by some distance the best player this year, losing just 2 matches and winning the title at the Australian Open. At the moment, he is on a 26-match unbeaten run. In the last-16 round, the World No. 1 brushed aside Richard Gasquet in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, in a match that lasted just two hours. He has yet to drop a set in this tournament.
Nadal has endured his worst ever clay-court season coming into the French Open. The Spaniard was beaten four times, failing to win a title and his ranking tumbled to No. 7, his worst in a decade. He advanced out of the fourth round on Monday with a 6-3, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Jack Sock, a young, unseeded American whose power and hustle helped turn a rout into a contest. He has dropped just one set this tournament.
For Nadal it is a chance to stay in the running to win an unprecedented 10th French Open title, becoming the only man ever to make it to double digits in titles at a single Grand Slam. He has been unstoppable here at the French Open, winning 70 of his last 71 matches. Nadal is 6-0 against Djokovic here in the French Open. For the past three years, the Spaniard has eliminated Djokovic from the tournament, preventing the World No. 1 from winning the career Grand Slam. In fact, Nadal beat Djokovic in the 2012 and 2014 finals in Paris as well as the 2013 semi-finals.
Djokovic's win in the direct match in Montecarlo has reduced his deficit in their head-to-head series to 23-20. The Serbian is 5-1 against Nadal in their last six matches, winning 2 of 3 matches on clay in that streak. Surprisingly only one of the last six meetings have gone the distance to, a meeting in the 2014 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 going to three sets.
