DJOKOVIC v WAWRINKA BETTING PREVIEW
Novak Djokovic didn't drop a set on his way to the semifinals, but Andy Murray mounted a surprise charge and won the third and fourth sets of their semifinal to stretch the match into a two-day affair. On Saturday, the Serb ran away with a 6-1 in the fifth set and stretched his winning streak to 28 matches On his way to the final, Djokovic won the heavily anticipated quarterfinal match 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 over Rafa Nadal. Sunday's final will be his third in four years, having dropped the 2014 and 2012 finales to Nadal. Djokovic's 2015 record is 41-2.
Wawrinka will carry a day's additional rest into the final and that will be welcome as the world number 14 secured a hard-fought 6-3 6-7 (1/7) 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Prior to this match, Wawrinka has advanced with wins over Marsel Ilhan, Dusan Lajovic, Steve Johnson, Gilles Simon, Roger Federer. He was absolutely impressive in his straight-sets victory over his countryman Federer in the quarter-finals. Anyway, the Swiss has yet to win a clay court-title this year and has reached the semis in only one previous event prior to Roland Garros.
Djokovic leads the Head-to-Head rivalry 17-3 overall abut five of their six encounters in best-of-five set matches have gone the distance. Wawrinka first established himself as a big-stage contender during the 2013 Australian Open, when he pushed Djokovic to 12-10 in the fifth set in a fourth-round encounter for the ages. In last year's Australian Open quarter-finals, the Swiss won that clash 9-7 in the fifth set.
The 28-year-old Serb knows that Wawrinka can hurt him and take the game to him in ways that his other main rivals cannot or will not. And Wawrinka has already shown that he knows how to step up to a big occasion. Nerves will come into play, and Stan Wawrinka will come out ready to play like he has all tournament long.
