England vs Australia betting preview

England have beaten the Wallabies in each of their last six matchups

England topped Pool C with a record of 3 wins and 1 draw and that draw was derived from a cancelled game against France last weekend. Tonga and USA were easily dispatched before England punished 14-man Argentina in a 39-10 victory. The cancellation of the France match, due to Typhoon Hagibis, means it is two weeks since their last outing. The Roses will be confident ahead of this weekend’s encounter given they currently enjoy a six-game winning streak over their Antipodean rivals, against whom they have not lost since the infamous 13-33 result at the last World Cup.

Coming into this weekend’s clash, England have a few injury concerns to manage.  Henry Slade, Billy and Mako Vunipola are all expected to be fit and feature from the off. Out goes George Ford, who is replaced at fly-half by Owen Farrell. Captain Farrell has appeared at centre so far this tournament, but Henry Slade replaces him in the midfield, forming a potent partnership with Manu Tuilagi.

England Starting Line-up

15 Elliot Daly, 14 Anthony Watson, 13 Henry Slade, 12 Manu Tuilagi, 11 Jonny May, 10 Owen Farrell (captain), 9 Ben Youngs, 8 Billy Vunipola, 7 Sam Underhill, 6 Tom Curry, 5 Courtney Lawes, 4 Maro Itoje, 3 Kyle Sinckler, 2 Jamie George, 1 Mako Vunipola

Replacements: 16 Luke Cowan-Dickie, 17 Joe Marler, 18 Dan Cole, 19 George Kruis, 20 Lewis Ludlam, 21 Willi Heinz, 22 George Ford, 23 Jonathan Joseph

Australia have blown hot and cold so far this tournament

Australia finished as runners up to Wales in Pool D with a record of 3 wins and 1 defeat. Michael Cheika's side lost 29-25 the decisive match in their pool against Wales.  The Wallabies have yet to produce an 80-minute performance. After defeating Uruguay 45-10, they were unconvincing during their final pool game in the 27-8 win over Georgia. Anyway, their 47-26 August success over New Zealand in Perth and eventual 39-21 victory over Fiji in their Pool D opener show how dangerous they still are when they get front-foot ball at speed with space.

Cheika is still seemingly struggling to fill the void left by the absence of Israel Folau. And he has made a big call by selecting 19-year-old Jordan Petaia at outside centre on the back of two impressive performance. Elsewhere Will Genia plays at scrum-half and Christian Lealiifano has been selected ahead of Matt To'omua at fly-half.

Australia Starting Line-up

15 Kurtley Beale, 14 Reece Hodge, 13 Jordan Petaia, 12 Samu Kerevi, 11 Marika Koroibete, 10 Christian Lealiifano, 9 Will Genia, 8 Isi Naisarani, 7 Michael Hooper (captain), 6 David Pocock, 5 Rory Arnold, 4 Izack Rodda, 3 Allan Alaalatoa, 2 Tolu Latu, 1 Scott Sio

Replacements: 16 Jordan Uelese, 17 James Slipper, 18 Taniela Tupou, 19 Adam Coleman, 20 Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, 21 Nic White, 22 Matt To'omua, 23 James O'Connor
