Group E Betting Preview
Belgium sailed through the qualifying stage with an impressive 20-point total. Their unbeaten run consisted of 6 wins and 2 draws against formidable opponents like Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan, and Estonia. With a tally of 22 goals and 4 goals conceded, they finished 1 point ahead of Austria to secure their spot in the coveted tournament. This remarkable feat extended their undefeated streak in pre-tournament qualifiers to an astonishing 40 games.
While Belgium's defensive options may lack a touch of excellence without the presence of Thibaut Courtois, their attacking prowess remains unrivaled. Kevin De Bruyne is set to start behind all-time leading goalscorer Romelu Lukaku, who will be eager to make amends for his lackluster display in the 2022 World Cup where Belgium disappointingly managed just one goal in three games before bowing out in the group stages. Talents Amadou Onana, Jeremy Doku, Leandro Trossard, and Johan Bakayoko has injected fresh dynamism and options into the squad.
This may not be the strongest Belgian side we have seen in recent years but Group E opposition is not so strong. We expect that Belgium will progress as group winners and comfortably secure a spot in the knockout stages.
Romania experienced disappointment by failing to qualify for both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup but bounced back with an unbeaten record in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. They recorded 6 wins and 4 draws from their 10 matches narrowly outperforming Switzerland to claim the top spot. Their group also included Israel, Belarus, Kosovo, and Andorra.
With an air of redemption and determination surrounding Romania, they enter the European Championship brimming with ambition and a hunger for victory.
The Tricolorii conceded a mere three goals from open play. Their potential success will be centred around their cautious, dogged and defensive approach. They struggle going forward and will need to be very tight at the back to stand a chance of getting out of the group.
Slovakia secured their spot in Euro 2024 by finishing as runners-up in their qualifying group, eight points behind Portugal. Their record boasted seven victories, one draw and two defeats. It's worth that both losses came at the hands of Portugal. Their qualifying group also comprised Luxembourg Iceland, Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Slovaks have struggled at the start of 2024 suffering a defeat against Austria and settling for a draw with Norway, who haven't been performing at their best. However Francesco Calzona's team secured resounding 4-0 victories against San Marino and Wales in their final international friendlies prior to the European Championship.
Since September 2022, the Falcons have endured only three losses, showcasing a good defensive solidity. Anyway, they may flail in the final-third where finding the back of the net could prove their biggest obstacle.
Ukraine were unfortunate in qualifying, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification as they finished 6 point shy of England, level on points with Italy but behind the Azzurri because of their head-to-head record. It was a remarkable feat given that the Ukrainians played all home games in Germany because of the war.
They secured their berth at the Euros through playoffs, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-2 and Iceland 2-1.
Ukraine clearly possess quality and did draw 1-1 against England and 0-0 against Italy in the last twelve months. Artem Dovbyk and Mikhailo Mudryk can cause problems on the counter-attack but their fragile backline is concern.
Serhiy Rebrov's squad could be the surprise package of this group.

Euro 2024 Group E Predictions
Belgium finished five points above Ukraine in qualifying and are expected to be too strong for the Scandinavians in their Group E opener. They have proven to be extremely solid defensively but Sergio Ramos's absence will be a huge blow. Romania have appointed an innovative managers such as Paulo Sousa earlier this year and it's hard to understand how they will adapt to a new style of play. Slovakia are the outsiders in Group E but they also were outsiders in their two previous major finals and managed to progress to the knockout stage both times. Belgium are not the powerhouse they were few years ago, but we expect them to win the Group E as well. As to the "To Qualify" market, Ukraine provide the best value.
Will Ukraine progress to knockout stage?
Ukraine were unfortunate not to qualify automatically, having finished well behind England in their qualifying group but level on points with Italy (despite never playing at home) but behind the defending champions because of their head-to-head record. We believe that the Ukrainian national team will get the nod over Slovakia and Romania for the 2nd place.
Will Belgium win all three group stage matches?
Belgium remained unbeaten for the sixth consecutive qualifying campaign for big tournaments (European Championship or FIFA World Cup). Many of their stars are past their prime, but Belgium are likely to effortlessly qualify fo the last 16 round as group E winners. Anyway, should they secure their first place after two games, they could be happy with a draw in the final game against Ukraine.
