Spain vs Italy Betting Preview
Spain, who easily beat Croatia 3-0 in their opener, looked to be the most in-form team in the tournament along with Germany. For the Spaniards, who have lost just one game of their last 11 (i.e., since De La Fuente became coach), it was their seventh consecutive victory. La Roja abandoned the tiki-taka under the new technical guidance but became deadly on the counters and vertical attacks.Italy got off to a bad start against Albania, conceding a goal after less than thirty seconds. Spalletti's team, however, played good football especially in the first half, overturning the result in a few minutes thanks to goals from Bastoni and Barella and winning 2-1. In the second half, however, the Azzurri lowered the pace a bit and risked conceding an equaliser in the final minutes. Athletically, Italy looked not at the top. The other weak point could be the defense: Calafiori and Bastoni know little about each other and neither can be considered a stopper.
The last direct encounter between the two teams in a major tournament dates back to Euro 2020 when Roberto Mancini's Italy beat La Roja in the semi-finals on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 120 minutes. After that game, however, the Iberians took revenge in the last two editions of the Nations League by beating the Azzurri on both occasions in the semi-finals, also 2-1.
Best Odds
Spain are favourites to win this clash (6/5 with William Hill). Ladbrokes offer 11/5 for the draw while "Italy to win" is backable at 3/1 with BetMGM.Probable Line-Ups
Spain (4-3-3): Unai Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Nacho, Cucurella; Fabián Ruiz, Rodri, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Morata, Nico Williams.
Spanish coach De La Fuente is not expected to change the starting XI that comfortably overcame Croatia. The only doubt concerns Alvaro Morata, who was subbed off injured in Berlin: if he doesn't recover in the, the experienced Joselu will spearhead the attac. Wingers Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal will retain their starting berth, the latter tipped as the next star of world football. Another ballot could be about the left-back position where Marc Cucurella is still ahead of Alejandro Grimaldo.
Italy (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Calafiori, Bastoni, Dimarco; Jorginho, Barella; Frattesi, Pellegrini, Chiesa; Scamacca.
Rumours confirm that Spalletti also seems inclined to confirm the same line-up that initially took the field against Albania, thus denying the rumours that Bryan Cristante was likely to replace Davide Frattesi in midfield. Behind the striker Gianluca Scamacca, therefore, there will also be Lorenzo Pellegrini and Federico Chiesa while, in defense, Riccardo Calafiori will still get the nod over Gianluca Mancini to flank Alessandro Bastoni. Nicolò Fagioli has recovered, but the Juventus midfielder will initially sit on the bench.
Spain v Italy Predictions
Given the draw between Albania and Croatia in the other Group B match, a draw could be useful for both teams to guarantee (90%) qualification to the last-16 round.
However, with a victory, the winners would secure the top spot which guarantees a softer draw in the knockout stage.
Considering the latest news on the formations, it would seem that the two managers will want to play the game openly, without making calculations.
In our opinion, it would be a risky strategy for the Italian national team since Spanish counterattacks are lethal.
One of these fast attacks could be decisive for the outcome of the match. As a result, we back Spain to win. The correct score could be the same as the last two head-to-head clashes, 2-1 for the Spaniards.
Watch out for Rodri among the possible shooters on goal and Dimarco among the possible booked: on his side there will be the youngster Lamine Yamal.
