GENNADY GOLOVKIN v KELL BROOK: BETTING PREVIEW
Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) has not been taken the distance in eight years, and currently holds the unified WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles.. He had been expected to accept the challenge of Chris Eubank Jr in an appealing if predictable defence of his world middleweight titles. But talks between the two parties stalled and Brook was more than happy to accept the fight.
The Kazakh fighter has yet to face a real elite level fighter in his career, despite handling everyone with ease in his 35 bouts. He is devastating on the counter-attack and is utterly relentless when on the front foot, seemingly landing punches from all angles at will. He is not the greatest boxer in the world from a purist's point of view as he pays little attention to defence because of the devastating power he possesses.
The current IBF 147lb champion Kell Brook (36-0 25KO’s) had no hesitation in accepting the challenge of moving up from 147lbs to 160. As a result of moving up two weight divisions, "Special K" goes into a major title fight for the first time in his career as a huge underdog against someone whom many regard as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. Brook must rely on his speed, his excellent variety of punch, and hope that his power comes up with him as he rises in size.
This will be the second time this year a Brit has stepped up to middleweight from welterweight, and Brook will be looking to do a better job than Amir Khan, who was knocked out in the 6th round of his bout with Canelo back in May. Amir Khan showed against Saul Alvarez that speed can and will cause problems for the naturally bigger fighter, but once ‘Canelo’ started landing shots in that fight there was only going to be one winner. Standing in front of a man with the punching power that Golovkin possesses is only going to result in a knock-out defeat.
