JOSHUA vs BREAZEALE: BETTING PREVIEW

Back in April, Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) ripped the IBF belt from Charles Martin who suffered two flash knockdowns in the second round. He dispatched his previous 15 opponents in brutal fashion as only bitter rival Dillian Whyte managed to take him beyond the third round. His 16 wins have yielded only 18 completed rounds.

He will attack, intelligently rather than recklessly, establish his jab, pressure off the front foot and gradually unload the explosive combinations. The champion from Watford has shown improvement in every fight he has had so far and that can only be bad news for his rivals. The key to this fight is speed, which Joshua has in abundance for a heavyweight, and Breazeale is the complete opposite.

Dominic Breazeale has compiled a perfect 17-0 record – with 15 KOs – since turning professional in November 2012. He may be unbeaten so far, but his record could be misleading. Fred Kassi gave him all sorts of problems when they fought last September, while Amir Mansour quit on his stool ahead of the 6th round despite being well ahead on the judge’s scorecard after dropping Breazeale. Those two fighters are nowhere close to Joshua’s level right now, so how can the American step up in this bout?

Unlike Charles Martin, Breazeale will attempt to get up, if he can and much like Dillian Whyte before him, the American will swing while he’s able. Anyway, so far in his career, he has been too easy to hit and we know Joshua is accurate and hits hard. His jab has no conviction, his footwork is ponderous and he appears to like a tear-up which will play totally into the hands of Joshua.
