MONACO GP - BETTING PREVIEW
The circuit is full of sharp turns and mostly surrounded by walls. It is definitely one of the most challenging circuits of the Formula 1 calendar. The street circuit is narrow and winding leaving very little room to manouevre or margin for error. It is quite likely that many drivers may not finish the race due to accidents and engine-related problems; therefore the outcome of the race is rather unpredictable.
Nico Rosberg had a great start to the 2016 season winning the first four races and looked invincible. He was set to win in Barcelona too but an unfortunate collision with Hamilton paved the way for Max Verstappen to celebrate his promotion with a victory on his debut for Red Bull.
Lewis Hamilton loves racing in this glamorous track as evidenced by his Monaco GP win in 2008. The Brit was very close to winning it again last year but a disastrous late pit stop denied the Englishman a famous race victory. He arrived in Monaco trailing Mercedes teammate and championship leader Nico Rosberg by 43 points, and is without a win since last October’s United States Grand Prix.
Daniel Ricciardo's one-lap pace was no secret to the paddock despite his lack of a career pole position before Saturday, but the ease in which he dispatched both Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel was utterly impressive. Ricciardo will start Sunday's grand prix on the supersoft tyre, having set his fastest Q2 time on that compound. A bold move from Red Bull, and one that gives them more options in the race. Nine out of the last 11 drivers to have secured pole in Monaco have gone on to win the race, so the 26-year-old can be in no better place as he aims for his first win since the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel was quickest in final practice for the Monaco Grand Prix, less than two tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo. The Ferrari driver struggled for form in an unbalanced SF16-T on Thursday, but the team would take advantage of the extended break between sessions to transform his fortunes for Saturday. He could be a big improver on Sunday but need a perfect strategy in order to win the race.
MONACO GP - STARTING GRID (TOP 10)
The mighty Mercedes were humbled here thanks to Daniel Ricciardo and the fastest ever lap of Monte Carlo, giving Red Bull their first pole position for nearly three years. Nico Rosberg took second from team-mate Lewis Hamilton in third. Ferrari Drivers are 4th (Vettel) and 6th (Raikkonen) on the starting grid while Niko Hulkenberg took the 5th. Max Verstappen, the winner last time out in Spain, will start 21st after crashing early on.
