Novak Djokovic will look to win his first French Open title and become the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to conquer all the four Grand Slams in his career. The Serb defeated 13th seeded Dominic Thiem 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-final. His road to the final has been surgical. Only dropping one set to Roberto Bautista.

Andy Murray's road to the final has been a tumultuous one. He started the tournament off by dropping the first two sets to Radek Stepanek. His second round match also went the distance against French wild card Mathias Bourgue. Although he is rounded into top form as the tournament has progressed, he still had to withstand stern tests from No. 9 seed Richard Gasquet in the quarter-finals and No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka in the semi-finals. Murray’s clay-court game has reached new levels in recent times as the Brit has posted a 35-3 record and won three titles this season.

It's the second time this season that the top two seeds have reached a Grand Slam final and the third time in the last month that the number one and number two in the world will face off for a clay court title. Murray and Djokovic have faced each other a staggering 33 times in ATP Tennis history, with the Serb winning 23 of those matches. Furthermore, Djokovic has won four out of five encounters on clay and 12 of the last 14 direct encounters. The duo have faced each other once at the French Open semifinal last year when the Brit was defeated 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 5-7, 6-1.
