PHIL TAYLOR v RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD: Betting preview Phil Taylor, who will retire at the conclusion of the next World Championship, began his final World Matchplay challenge with a 10-5 win against Gerwyn Price despite hitting only two maximums. Anyway, "The Power" looked in good form, hitting early 106 and 151 finishes to eradicate any nerves. It was Taylor's 95th win in 103 matches at his favourite venue.
Raymond Van Barneveld, who is ranked just one place behind Phil Taylor, beat Joe Cullen 10-8 in the first round at Blackpool's Winter Gardens. Barney appeared to be cruising at 8-3 but Cullen won five of the next six legs and failed a double 10 to make it 9-9.
Phil Taylor has won five of the last six matches against RVB and should be favoured by the format of the World Matchplay tournament.
