Jake Paul vs Ben Askren Betting Preview

Jake Paul started his boxing career when beating youtuber Deji Olatunji on the undercard of his brother's fight against KSI, another Youtube star. He made his professional debut in December of 2019 against AnEsonGib, a fellow 0-0 youTuber. Then he made an impressive statement with his thunderous knockout of former NBA player Nate Robinson in November on the undercard of Mike Tyson's recent comeback against Roy Jones Jr. As a result, he is 2-0 in professional boxing.

36-year-old Ben Askren is a former Bellator MMA and ONE Championship welterweight titleholder with a 19-2 record and wins against world class competition. He will step into the boxing ring for the first time since announcing his MMA retirement in 2019. He wasn’t really known for his striking ability in MMA but he has fought at a much higher level than Paul and beaten some quality strikers in the past. Askren retired from professional MMA after two defeats in UFC, a 5-seconds KO against Jorge Masvidal and a third round defeat by submission against Demian Maia.

Jake Paul and Ben Askren are fighting eight rounds at Cruiserweight. That means that both fighters can't weigh anything over 200 pounds. Considering the former UFC fighter fought at 170 during his MMA run and 174 as a collegiate wrestler, you can expect him to be well under that limit. On the other side, the youtuber weighed in at 189 pounds for his las boxing bout.

Jake Paul is a 5/7 favourite with SportNation while Ben Askren is the 22/15 underdog with VBet. The draw is backable at 18/1 with Betfair.

Jake Paul vs Ben Askren Predictions

Askren is a world-class grappler, a two-time NCAA national champion while attending Missouri and a FILA Grappling world championship win. Despite a very good professional career in MMA there are still serious questions over his striking ability, which might be exposed in a boxing ring when he can't rely on his grappling skills. While his boxing ability isn't at the top level it will be more than enough to cause damage to Jake Paul, who'll get frustrated against a man used to taking punches, considerably harder than those Paul is throwing. Hence, we expected a more levelled fight this time.

While Askren is the only one of the two who has succeeded against legitimate fighters, Jake Paul’s size and greater exposure, age, freshness and aptitude with actual boxing should see him winning the fight.
