Liverpool vs Real Madrid Betting Preview
Liverpool have had a bad start to the season and are struggling. Anyway, they enter this clash on the back of two straight victories against Everton and Newcastle (both with a 2-0 scoreline). Two victories that have lifted the Reds in 7th position in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth placed Tottenham with one game in hand. Prior to that, Jurgen Klopp's men suffered two consecutive losses at Brighton (2-1) and Wolverhampton (3-0).
Real Madrid go into this match on a four-match winning run in all competitions. They have recently won the FIFA Club World Cup beating Al Ahly 4-1 in the semifinal and Al Hilal 5-3 in the final. Then, Carlo Ancelotti's men eased past Elche (4-0) and managed to win 2-0 at Osasuna over the weekend. Despite the winning streak, Real Madrid trail Barcelona by 8 points in La Liga standings. As to the Champions League, the Galacticos went 4-1-1 in group play, with the lone loss coming against RB Leipzig.
In terms of direct encounters, Real Madrid have won five of the last six meetings since 2014. The Spainsh heavyweights have outmatched Liverpool in two UCL finals in the past seasons, including in the 2021-22 final in Paris when a late goal scored by Vinicius Jr. decided the match.
Best Odds
Liverpool are 13/10 to win on Wednesday with Betfred, with Real Madrid 11/5 to come away with the victory at Unibet. A draw is priced at 21/8 with the new betting siteVegasland.
Probable Line-Ups
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Bajcetic, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Gakpo, Jota
Darwin Nunez has few chance of starting after he was substituted in Saturday’s win over Newcastle with a shoulder injury. Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino are all available again, but the Brazilian is expected to benched again. Jota is expected to complete the front trio alongside Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo. In midfield, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Stefan Bajcetic look like the first choice trio. The likes of Luiz Diaz, Ibrahima Konatè and Thiago Alcantara remains sidelined. No changes are expected in defense, with Van Dijk and Joe Gomez at the heart of the back, Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold the starting full backs.
Real Madrid (4-3-3): Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba; Ceballos, Camavinga, Modric; Valverde, Benzema, Vinicius Jr
Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni have been ruled out for this clash, while Ferland Mendy is a long-term absentee. Karim Benzema should be fit to feature after recent injury, with Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde likely to flank the Frenchman upfront. Marco Asensio and Rodrygo provide further options. In the middle of the park, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos will join Luka Modric. At the back, David Alaba will start as right back, with Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger forming the centre-back pair.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid Betting Tips
Despite being a bit inconsistent this season, Real Madrid can never be discounted in this competition and should have the edge over Liverpool in midfield (although Kroos and Tchouameni are sidelined).
With Karim Benzema fit and firing in a fearsome attack, we expect the Blancos to get at least a draw.
First legs are often cagey affairs, so we don't expect plenty of goals. In addition to the Under 3.5 goals bet, we back the 1-1 scoreline in the Correct Score market.
As to players betting, we pick Joe Gomez as possible player to receive a card.
