Sunday, February 25, 2023Chelsea v Liverpool Betting Preview
Chelsea enter this clash high on confidence after earning a point at Manchester City last weekend. Prior to that, the Blues recorded back-to-back 3-1 victories at Aston Villa (in the FA Cup) and at Crystal Palace (in the Premier League). As a result, Mauricio Pochettino's men currently sit 10th in the league standings, a whopping 14 points behind 4th placed Aston Villa. Their route to the League Cup final includes victories over AFC Wimbledon (2-1), Brighton (1-0), Blackburn (2-0), Newcastle (on penalties) and Middlesbrough (6-2 on aggregate). The Blues don't have a great record at Wembley. They will be looking to win their first domestic trophy since 2018 after losing three finals in a row at this venue.
Jurgen Klopp is hoping to seal his departure from Anfield with a significant trophy haul. After beating Luton 4-1 in midweek, the Reds are topping the Premier League standings with a 4 points margin over Manchester City and 5 over Arsenal, having played a game more than their competitors. Liverpool have also reached the last-16 round of the FA Cup and the Europa League (they will meet Southampton and Sparta Prague respectively). As to this competition, the Reds have defeated Leicester (3-1), Bournemouth (2-1), West Ham (5-1 in the quarter-finals) and Fulham (3-2 on aggregate in the semifinal) en-route to their qualification for the final.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Petrovic; Gusto, Disasi, Colwill, Chilwell; Caicedo, Fernandez, Gallagher; Sterling, Palmer, Jackson
Centre-back Thiago Silva could recover in time to start here but Mauricio Pochettino also has a lenghty list of absentees, with Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Reece James, Benoit Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia still out. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has returned to training and could be in contention, though Djordje Petrovic has shown much form in his absence. Christopher Nkunku looks set to start on the bench having failed to impress since his return from injury, meaning that the likes of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem
Liverpool (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Liverpool have been hit by injuries ahead of the Wembley showpiece. Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah missed Wednesday's match against Luton and face a race to prove their fitness. Dominik Szoboszlai will also face a “last-minute” test while goalkeeper Alisson Becker, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota are definetely sidelined. As a result, the likes of Caoimhín Kelleher and Conor Bradley will retain their berth as starting goalkeeper and right-back respectively..
Our Chelsea v Liverpool Predictions
Liverpool's 4-1 crushing of Chelsea last month ended a run of seven successive draws between the sides after 90 minutes.
It was a poor display by Chelsea but the Blues have improved a lot since then, while Liverpool will have to deal with many important absences compared to Junuary's encounter.
Chelsea have produced strong displays in a number of big games this season, and we expect them to exploit Liverpool's defensive frailties.
The Reds have conceded in all this season's EFL Cup games so the "Both Teams To Score" bet is our main option.
As for the match result, we go for the Draw with 1-1 the most likely outcome in the Correct Score market.
