England vs North Macedonia Betting Preview
England are from a routine 4-0 win over Malta, courtesy of two penalties scored by Harry Kane and Callum Wilson, an own goal and a stunner by Tren Alexander-Arnold. Having already defeated Italy and Ukraine in their first two Euro 2024 qualifiers, a victory here against North Macedonia would take them one step closer to securing their place. The general mood around the Three Lions is much improved from a year ago. On 14 June 2022, Gareth Southgate's men were smashed 4-0 at home to Hungary in the UEFA Nations League and sections of the Molineux crowd turned on the national team manager.
North Macedonia will be out for immediate redemption after they frittered away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Ukraine in Skopje on Friday. They have three points in two games, having beaten Malta in their opening qualifying match and currently sit 4th in the Group C standings. The Lynxes head to Old Trafford having scored in their last six games at this stage - while only losing two of their last seven European Championship qualifying games away from home.
England are yet to beat Group C rivals North Macedonia at home, having drawn in their past two meetings on home soil. There two nations met in qualifying for both Euro 2004 and 2008, with then FYR Macedonia unbeaten on English soil, drawing 2-2 at St Mary’s in 2002, before a goalless draw at Old Trafford four years later.
Best Odds
The Three Lions are priced at just 1/9 with unibet to triumph at Old Trafford, with North Macedonia available at 30/1 with Betfair. The draw is backable at 10/1 with BetVictor.
Probable Line-Ups
England (4-3-3): Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Henderson; Foden, Kane, Rashford
Bukayo Saka was substituted at half-time after picking up a knock and is unlikely to feature on Monday evening. Phil Foden, who made an appearence of the bench on Friday evening, is expected to start. Marcus Rashford is also likely to feature from the off, after sitting out against Malta. Eberechi Eze will be hoping for more minutes having made his debut last time out while the Man City's contingent - John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker, in addition to Foden - is available for selection. Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to continue in midfield after an impressive performance against the Maltese team.
North Macedonia (4-3-3): Dimitrievski; Ristovski, Zajkov, Velkovski, Alioski; Bardhi, Ademi, Elmas; Ashkovski, Nestorovski, Trajkovski
The vistors will be forced into a change in the heart of the backline following Visar Musliu's sending off on Friday. The Ingolstadt 04 defender will be replaced by Darko Velkovski as centre-back, while Dario Alioski and Stefan Ristovski retaining their berth as full backs. Ilija Nestorovski will spearhead the attack, flanked by Stefan Ashkovski and Aleksandar Trajkovski. In the middle of the park, Napoli's Eljif Elmas will join Arijan Ademi and Enis Bardhi..
Our England vs North Macedonia Predictions
North Macedonia should offer a sterner test than Malta. After all, they denied Italy a place at World Cup 2022 by defeating them in a play-off.
Anyway, England have enough quality to ease past their rivals, even after an exhausting season.
We expect the Three Lions to win 2-0 or 3-0, with Marcus Rashford findind the back of the net.
