England vs Italy Betting Preview
Gareth Southgate's side can effectively seal a spot in next summer's continental tournament with a win at Wembley Stadium. They currently top the Group C table with 4 win and 1 draw in their five outings so far, with Ukraine the only team able to stop the Three Lions with a 1-1 home draw last month. In the other games, Gareth Southgate's men thrashed Malta (0-4 away) and North Macedonia (7-0 at home), beat Italy 2-1 in Naples and defeated Ukraine 2-0 at home. They didn't play any qualifier last week but hosted Australia in an entertaining International friendly won 1-0 courtesy of a goal scored by Olly Watkins.
Italy enter this clash on the back of a comfortable 4-0 victory over Malta. As a result, the Azzurri are now level on points with Ukraine in 2nd place (but with one game in hand) and trail England by three points. A victory at Wembley would see Luciano Spalletti's men reaching England, but the Three Lions have a favorable schedule in the last two qualifiers - Italy will face Ukraine and North Macedonia while England will host Malta and visit North Macedonia. The new head coach Spalletti - who replaced Roberto Mancini last month - has a W2 D1 record so far having beaten Ukraine 2-1 at home and shared the spoils in North Macedonia (1-1) in his first two games at the helm of the national team.
Best Odds
The Three Lions are priced at just 4/6 with BetUK to triumph on Tuesday night, with Italy available at 5/1 with Unibet. The draw is backable at 11/4 with Bet365. An interesting price boost can be found at Parimatch - new customers can get 35/1 England to win + 24 free spins.
Probable Line-Ups
England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Trippier, Maguire, Stones, Walker; Rice, Alexander-Arnold; Rashford, Foden, Bellingham; Kane
Bukayo Saka, Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw are sidelined for the host. In attack, therefore, Harry Kane will be supported by Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford. Other viable alternatives are Jack Grealish, Jarrod Bowen, James Maddison and Ollie Watkins. In midfield, Trent Alexander-Arnold will start alongside Declan Rice while KieranTrippier and Kyle Walker will be the starting full-backs. At the heart of defence, Gareth Southgarte will rely upon Harry Maguire, although he is not playing as a starter for Man UTD. John Stones, who has recently returned from an injury, Lewis Dunk and Fikayo Tomori are in contention for the remaining centre-back position.
Italy (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Dimarco, Acerbi, Mancini, Di Lorenzo; Cristante, Frattesi, Barella; Kean, Raspadori, Berardi
Luciano Spalletti is expected to keep faith in most of the starting eleven that started against Malta. The only changes should concern the midfield, where Davide Frattesi and Bryan Cristante could replace Giacomo Bonaventura and Manuel Locatelli, and the defense. Here Giovanni Di Lorenzo will resume his place as right back (with Matteo Darmian making room) while Francesco Acerbi is favored over his team-mate Alessandro Bastoni and the youngster Giorgio Scalvini to partner Gianluca Mancini. Federico Dimarco should retain his starting bert as left-back despite Destiny Udogie is pushing for a start. The front trio should formed by Giacomo Raspadori, Domenico Berardi and Moise Kean once again. Anyway, Kean should play as central attacker, Raspadori as the left wing. Federico Chiesa, Mattia Zaccagni and Ciro Immobile are absent due to injury while both Niccolò Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali are unavailable due to the well-known betting scandal.
Our England vs Italy Predictions
We believe Italy are still rebuilding at the moment, after missing qualification for the World Cup for the second consecutive time and appointing Luciano Spalletti as new head coach.
Many top players such as Marco Verratti, Jorginho, Federico Chiesa and Leonardo Bonucci have retired from international football or are sidelined.
England on the other side is a more estabilished team and have been almost faultless at home in the last decade.
As a result, we believe that the Three Lions will get maximum points from this match. England's victory, however, is not expected to be too wide. Maybe the final goal could come towards the end of the match with Italy all-out attack, so we're backing England to win 2-0 in the Correct Score market.
Among the possible scorers, keep an eye out for Jude Bellingham, who is certainly the in-form man for the host in this first part of the season.
