England vs Belgium Betting Preview
England's early preparations for Euro 2024 did not proceed as anticipated (as we predicted!), with the team experiencing a disappointing 1-0 loss to Brazil last weekend, courtesy of a late goal scored by future Real Madrid star Endrick. This marked the first loss at Wembley for England since October 2020. Prior to their disappointing loss at the weekend, The Three Lions had been on a ten-game unbeaten run.
Belgium's performance last Saturday was likewise mediocre, as they recorded a goalless draw versus the Republic of Ireland at Aviva Stadium. Goalkeeper Matz Sels saved a penalty in the 28th minute, avoiding a worse outcome. Anyway Domenico Tedesco, who assumed the role of Belgium's boss following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has managed an unbeaten 12-game streak (W8 D4). This unbeaten streak, coupled with topping their Euro 2024 qualifying group ahead of Austria, shows Belgium to be a formidable opponent.
As to direct encounter, Belgium has proven to be a tough competitor, clinching a 2-0 victory over England in their last encounter two years prior. Interestingly, the Red Devils have emerged victorious in three out of their previous four matches against the Three Lions, including two wins during the 2018 World Cup.
Best Odds
The top football betting sites have installed England as the favourite, priced at 4/5 to win with 10bet, while Belgium is a 4/1 option with Bet365. The odds for a draw stand at 26/9 with VBet.
Probable Line-Ups
England (4-3-3): Pickford; Konsa, Stones, Branthwaite, Gomez; Mainoo, Rice, Maddison; Bowen, Toney, Rashford
Southgate is without a number of key players for his final game before naming his squad for this summer’s tournament in Germany., with Rico Lewis and James Trafford being the most recent additions to the roster. Meanwhile, players Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, Sam Johnstone, and Bukayo Saka will be absent due to injuries.
Despite not participating in England's recent 1-0 defeat against Brazil, both Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson could potentially make an appearance here. With Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka declared unavailable due to injuries, Ollie Watkins and Anthony Gordon will led the line against the Selecao. This time Ivan Toney is expected to get the nod as the starting centre-forward. Kobbie Mainoo and James Maddison might feature in the starting line-up as well while team captain Declan Rice will secure his 50th cap with this start. Jude Bellingham has been passed fit after having suffered cramps during the second half of the Brazil match.
Belgium (4-3-3): Kaminski; Castagne, Theate, Faes, Meunier; Vranckx, Onana, Tielemans; Doku, Lukaku, Trossard
Following his absence in the goalless match against Ireland, Romelu Lukaku is predicted to return here. However Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne, due to their respective injuries, will be missing on the field. Other Premier League players such as Amadou Onana, Jeremy Doku, and Thomas Meunier are likely to participate. Nottingham Forest's Matz Sels is likely to retain his bert as the starting goalkeeper, while Leandro Trossard, Youri Tielemans, and Timothy Castagne will also feature in the line-up.
Our England vs Belgium Predictions
England's manager, Gareth Southgate, is eager to witness a response from his guys when they face off against Belgium at Wembley. The team recently struggled in creating chanced, and with the absence of key players such as Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, significant changes are not expected.
On the Belgian side, the team is clearly in transition with several members of their golden generation now out of the picture. They looked inexperienced and were fortunate to avoid a loss against Ireland.
Bearing this in mind, England nailing a narrow victory is the likeliest outcome. Our preferred prediction for final score stands at 1-0.
It's a golden opportunity for Ivan Toney to establish himself as Kane's reliable substitute, and we back the Brentford striker to find the back of the net.
