England vs Ivory Coast Betting Preview
England enter this match on the back of 2-1 win over Switzerland last Saturday with Harry Kane's second-half penalty proving the difference. The Three Lions have won 11 of their last 14 home matches and are unbeaten in 21 games (in normal time) since losing to Belgium in the UEFA Nations League in November 2020. Their other defeat came at the hands of Italy in the Euro 2020 final but it was on penalties. Gareth Southgate's men conceded the fewest goals at Euro 2020 and recorded a hugely impressive seven clean sheets in 10 games during the World Cup qualifying campaign. Furthermore, they are unbeaten in the last 14 outings at Wembley in all competitions.
Ivory Coast narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in a winner-takes-all clash last November. As to the African Cup of Nations, they were knocked out by Egypt in a penalty shoot-out in the round of 16. The Ivorians proved they will be no pushovers as they were only beaten by France 2-1 in the stoppage-time last Saturday. The "Elephants" took the lead against the reigning world champions thanks to Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe but France won from behind courtesy of Olivier Giroud and Aurelien Tchouameni strikes. It is now just one win from their last five friendly encounters for Patrice Beaumelle's side, though, and they are winless in four exhibition matches away from home since beating Tunisia in October 2019.
Best Odds
Despite Southgate making changes, England are still the big 12/25 favourites at Parimatch with Ivory Coast out at 8/1 with Unibet to produce the upset. The draw is backable at 18/5 with VBet.
Probable Line-Ups
England (4-2-3-1): Pope; Walker-Peters, Mings, Maguire, Mitchell; Rice, Bellingham; Sterling, Mount, Grealish; Kane
Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish are likely to start in Southgate's reshuffle, while Mason Mount is expected to play as offensive midfielder behind the lone striker Harry Kane. In the middle of the park, Jude Bellingham is likley to partner Declan Rice while Emile Smith Rowe will be assessed having missed the win against Switzerland with a minor injury. At the back Harry Maguire and Tyrone Mings are in contention for starts while Kyle Walker-Peters and Tyreek Mitchell should get the nod over Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Shaw. John Stones was a late withdrawal against Switzerland and will miss the match.
Ivory Coast (4-3-3): B. Sangare; Aurier, Boly, Bailly, Konan; I. Sangarè, Seri, Kessie; Pepe, Haller, Zaha
Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepè will start in a classy front three alongside Ajax striker Sebastien Haller and Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha. As alternative, Beaumelle has Burnley's Maxwell Cornet. AC Milan's skipper Frank Kessiè will anchor the midfield alongside Jean Michael Seri and Ibrahim Sangarè. Man Utd's Eric Bailly and Wolves' Wily Boly play in central defence, with Serge Aurier and Ghislain Konan the starting full backs.
England v Ivory Coast Betting Tips
Gareth Southgate's men are unbeaten on home soil since October 2020 having won 13 of their last 16 games in England (9 victories in a row). We don't believe that run will come to an end on Tuesday but we expect the Three Lions to win with the narrowest margin (we also predicted it against Switzerland). The 2-1 scoreline could be the lucky choice again, while Raheem Sterling looks the best bargain in the anytime goalscorer market.
