England vs Switzerland Betting Preview
England comfortably qualified for the 2022 World Cup at the end of last year after finishing runner up to Italy in the rescheduled Euro 2020 competition. The Three Lions recorded 5 wins and 2 draws in World Cup qualifiers after the infamous loss to Italy on penalties. They will aim to extend a 14-game unbeaten (in 90 minutes) run on home soil and have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven matches. They have scored at least five in three of their last four fixtures. Anyway they played against minnows such as San Marino (0-10), Albania (5-0) and Andorra (0-5).
Switzerland finished third in their group at Euro 2020 behind Italy and Turkey and managed to qualify as one of the best thrid-placed teams. They took world champions France to extra time in the round of 16, eventually prevailing on penalties, but lost to Spain in the same way in the quarter finals. The Swiss are unbeaten (in 90 minutes) in the last 10 matches and have won their World Qualifying group, leapfrogging Italy in the last match. There have been under three goals scored in five of Switzerland’s last eight games and they have five clean sheets in their last six.
The Three Lions are unbeaten against La Nati in more than 40 years, winning eight of the last 12 direct encounter. Their last match came at the Nations League finals almost three years ago, a 0-0 draw which Gareth Southgate's men won on penalties to seal third place.
Best Odds
England are 18/25 with STS.co.uk to win on Saturday, with Switzerland priced at 24/5 with Unibet to come away with the victory. A draw is priced at 13/5 with Parimatch.
Probable Line-Ups
England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Walker-Peters, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Bellingham; Sterling, Mount, Foden; Kane
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Aaron Ramsdale and Tammy Abraham have all pulled out of the squad. Bukayo Saka was confined to his hotel room after testing positive to COVID. Sam Johnstone and Ollie Watkins have been called as replacements, while there were first senior call-ups for Tyrick Mitchell, Marc Guehi and Kyle Walker-Peters. Up front, Harry Kane should be supported by Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Phil Foden, while Jude Bellingham is expected to partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park.
Switzerland (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Mbabu, Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Xhaka, Freuler; Okafor, Shaqiri, Vargas; Embolo
Goalkeepers Yann Sommer and Philipp Kohn are out through injury so Gregor Kobel or Jonas Omlin will deputise against England. Other sidelined players are Denis Zakaria and Haris Seferovic. Hence, Murat Yakin is likely to give his younger players a bit of time on the pitch in England, with Augsburg’s Andi Zeqiri and RB Salzburg’s Noah Okafor hoping to impress in attack. Anyway, Granit Xhaka is expected to be in the heart of midfield for the Swiss, while Xherdan Shaqiri is also expected to start.
England v Switzerland Betting Tips
Switzerland are a tough nut to crack. Since their Euro 2020 exit, the Swiss have won four of their last seven, keeping five clean sheets in the process. The Three Lions have won four of their last seven, keeping five clean sheets in the process. As a result, we expect a narrow win for the home side - probably with a 1-0 scoreline. The under 2.5 goals is another bet worth to be considered.
