England v Finland betting preview
England commenced their UEFA Nations League campaign after Gareth Southgate's departure with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Ireland, courtesy of goals scored by Declan Rice and Jack Grealish. Their only defeat in the past 17 competitive matches occurred against Spain in the Euro 2024 final. However, the Three Lions have struggled at Wembley recently; failing to secure a win in a Nations League game on home turf since November 2020 and failing to score in two out of three matches played since then.
On the other hand, Finland face an uphill battle. They suffered a resounding 3-0 defeat against Greece in their opening UEFA Nations League fixture, leaving their spirits considerably dampened. Their defense has been vulnerable as they have conceded 13 goals in their last six matches and suffered three defeats in their previous four away fixtures. A crushing 4-1 loss to Wales abruptly ended their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024. Their pre-Euro friendlies brought mixed results with a 4-2 defeat against Portugal and a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Scotland.
Best Odds
England are huge favourites to win in front of their own fans at 1/7 with Bet365, while Finland are 23/1 for shocking victory with 10Bet with the draw at 9/1 with BetMGM.
Probable Line-ups
England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Alexander-Arnold, Guehi, Maguire, Colwill; Mainoo, Rice, Grealish; Saka, Kane, Gordon
Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins have withdrawn from the squad along with Jude Bellingham and Luke Shaw who find themselves sidelined due to long-term injuries. John Stones could potentially take up a central role in defense after making an impactful appearance during the Dublin clash. Angel Gomes and Morgan Gibbs-White await further involvement after making debut appearances in the previous match. Anthony Gordon and Jack Grealish, who both impressed against Ireland, will have another opportunity to shine under Wembley's dazzling lights while Eberechi Eze and Jarrod Bowen are among those who could come in from the start should Carsley opt to rotate his side. Tino Livramento and Noni Madueke are vying for their debuts.
Finland (4-2-3-1): Hradecky; Stahl, Hoskonen, Ivanov, Uronen; Peltola, Nissila; Lod, Kamara, Antman; Pohjanpalo
Finland will rely on Glen Kamara to provide the creativity in midfield, with Joel Pohjanpalo expected to get the nod over former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki up front. Midfielders Kaan Kairinen and Rasmus Schuller sustained injuries at the weekend and are unlikely to feature. Urho Nissila - who plays his club football in Hungary - replaced Schuller in the weekend's defeat and should now step in from the first whistle..
Head To Head
In terms of head-to-head battles, these two teams have clashed 11 times with a twenty-three-year hiatus since their last encounter. England are unbeaten having won nine of those matches and drawn twice.
Our England v Finland Betting Tips
England succumbed to a shock 1-0 loss to Iceland in their last home game but under the guidance of interim manager Lee Carsley they rapidly transformed into more dynamic unit.
They could and probably should have scored more against the Irish national team, but we have faith in the Three Lions to be that little bit more ruthless at Wembley. We expect Lee Carsley to make it two for two.
Harry Kane is set to make his 100th appearance, providing extra motivation to deliver a top performance.
As a result, we back England to win by 2 or more goals and the Bayern Munich striker to find the back of the net.
