Chelsea vs Liverpool betting preview
Chelsea endured a disappointing campaign last time around, finishing 12th in the Premier League standings. As a consequence, the Blues will not play European football this season although a heavy-spending transfer campaign last year. Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as new manager, after the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard were all sacked last term. The Londoners won the inaugural edition of the Premier League Summer Series this year, recording two wins and a draw against Newcastle (1-1), Fulham (2-0) and Brighton (4-3) in their tour in the USA. They also shared the spoils with Borussia Dortmund (1-1) in their most recent outing.
Liverpool also had an inconsistent year in 2022/23, finishing fifth in the domestic table without being in contention for a top 4 placement for most of the season. The Reds will have to make do without Champions League football this term for the first time since Jurgen Klopp's maiden campaign in charge nine seasons ago. The German manager has overseen a significant midfield refresh at Anfield this summer, bringin in Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, and offering over £110 million for Moises Caicedo. The Merseysiders have only lost to Bayern Munich during their preseason, beating Karlsruher, Leicester City and Darmstad and drawing 4-4 against Greuther Furth.
Best Odds
Chelsea are slightly underdogs despite playing at home, priced 57/29 with Vbet to beat the Reds. Liverpool are backable at 29/20 with 10bet while the draw is offered at 27/10 by Livescore Bet.
Probable Line-Ups
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Arrizabalaga; James, T. Silva, Colwill, Chilwell; Fernandez, Gallagher; Sterling, Chukwuemeka, Mudryk; Jackson
The hosts are set to be without Benoit Bediashile, Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku, who will miss at least for the next four months due to a serious knee injury. Moreover, a hamstring issue will likely keep Noni Madueke out of action. As a result, Mykhailo Mudryk is in line to feature up front alongside Carney Chukwuemeka and Raheem Sterling, behind the lone striker Nicolas Jackson. It will be intriguing to see who starts alongside Enzo Fernandez in central midfield, with Conor Gallagher favourite. At the back, new signing Axel Disasi is expected to start and play a key role alongside Thiago Silva (or Levi Colwill) after his summer arrival from Monaco.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Jurgen Klopp has only two injury concerns as of now - Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic. With Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Jordan Henderson no longer at the Merseyside club, new signings Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to start in the middle of the park, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will play in a more advanced position this year. The likes of Diogo Jota, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo are likely to form he front trio, with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz initially benched despite a brilliant pre-season.
Chelsea v Liverpool Betting Tips
Both teams scored plenty of goals in club friendlies this summer. Liverpool's defense has been particularly suspect during the preseason, as they have concede 4 goals to Bayern Munich and Greuther Furth, and fialed to keep a clean sheet against Karlsruher and Darmstadt.
The last six matches between Liverpool and Chelsea have produced draws, and we can make it seven on Sunday.
A 2-2 scoreline is our pick in the Correct Score market, while Diogo Jota's odds as anytime goalscorer are appealing..
