2000 Guineas Predictions, Odds & Best Bets
- Written by David Bet
The first Classic of the British flat racing season will hit our screens this weekend. This year we should be in for a terrific race with strong English representation and a powerful Irish challenge. It’ll be our first proper chance to see how the leading three-year-olds stack up against each other, although we’ve already witnessed Charlie Appleby’s Native Trail bolt up in the Craven Stakes to establish his position as the one to beat. Will Native Trail justify favoritism? Don't miss our 2000 Guineas predictions & best bets, including confirmed runners, horse by horse guide, best odds and free bets from UK's top betting sites.

2000 GUINEAS BETTING PREVIEW
Charlie Appleby's NATIVE TRAIL is the odds on favourite. The son of Oasis Dream was impressive at two. He was 4-4 in his juvenile campaign, including both the National Stakes and The Dewhurst. He captured the he Craven Stakes on his opening outing this season over course and distance, and looks he is still improving. Native Trail has been drawn on the wing in stall 15 and will be ridden by William Buick.
James Doyle is aboard stablemate COROEBUS, who is next best in the betting. He hasn't been seen since claiming the Group 3 Autumn Stakes over course and distance at the end of last season. Making his first start of the campaign in a such big race could be a handicap.
Aidan O'Brien saddles LUXEMBOURG and POINT LONSDALE. The former was unbeaten in three starts last season, and he was last seen bounding to victory in the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster. His devastating turn of foot could turn out to be the key component in this race. A win in the 2000 Guineas would set Luxembourg up nicely for the Epsom Derby (Godolphin pair Native Trail and Coroebus hold entries for the June Classic as well).
Richard Fahey will saddle the classy PERFECT POWER, who showed his class when winning the Greenham Stakes at Newbury a few weeks ago. He beat LUSAIL that day. Christophe Soumillon was on board and the Frenchman gets the nod once again. Anyway, Perfect Power will run a mile for the first time. Despite that he is the shortest-priced British runner outside the Godolphin runners.
Hugo Palmer's DUBAWI LEGEND was a creditable second to Native Trail in the Dewhurst last season, beaten by only two lenghts. Anyway, he failed to fire when sent over to Breeders' Cup when he was down the field in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar. Boasting a decent turn of foot and change of gear, we expect him to be in the mix.

Dark horses?Aidan O'Brien's POINT LONSDALE had his colours lowered for the first time on his final start last year by ante-post QIPCO 2000 Guineas favourite Native Trail in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh. The presence of Frankie Dettori is a big plus.
EYDON made a big impression in the Feilden Stakes at the Craven meeting and is swiftly stepped up in class by Roger Varian. He could be an interesting each-way option.
William Knight’s CHECKANDCHALLENGE makes his competitive debut on turf following successive wins on the all-weather. He has top 3 ambitions.
