AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2021: ALL THE INFO
The Australian Open is the first major tournament of the year - the other three being the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. The world's best tennis players lock horns in Melbourne on hardcourt surface. Novak Djokovic won his eighth Australian Open title (a record) last year as he beat Dominic Thiem in a five-set thriller. The Serbian ace triumphed 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in one minute short of four hours in Melbourne. As for the women, Sofia Kenin capped off her surprising run at the 2020 Australian Open with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Garbine Muguruza to win the first Grand Slam title of her career.
The 109th edition of the tournament will be like no other as the ATP and WTA Tours attempt to return to normal despite the COVID outbreak continuing to play havoc on the schedule and players.
Djokovic is once again the top seed in the men's singles bracket, while Kenin is the No. 4 seed on the women's side.
Ashleigh Barty, who is playing in her first major since last year's Australian Open, tops the women's seed list. Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka are ranked second and third, respectively.
