Wimbledon 2024: All The Info

The Wimbledon is the third major tournament of the year - the other three being the Australian Open, French Open and the US Open. The world's best tennis players lock horns in London SW19 on the grass.

Four years ago Wimbledon was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's tournament is set to start on July 1st with 100% capacity.

For those wondering, it will run until Sunday 14th July 2024.

The ticket ballot for Wimbledon is now closed. The ballot is intended to be the fairest way of obtaining tickets to The Championships, but please aware that entry into the Wimbledon Public Ballot does not automatically entitle applicants to tickets, but to a place in the draw. It is not possible to request tickets for specific days or courts, as the day and court offered are chosen randomly by a computerised selection process.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, all players from Russia and Belarus Russian will be able to compete at this year’s edition of the Wimbledon tennis tournament as “neutral athletes”.

Carlos Alcaraz will attempt to defend his men’s singles title. With minimal grass court experience, the Spaniard stormed through the draw at Queen's Club, prior to defeating Novak Djokovic in a modern-day classic five set Wimbledon in the 2023 edition. As for the women, Last year's Wimbledon tournament saw history being made, with an unseeded player winning the ladies' singles for the first time ever. Marketa Vondrousova was ranked at 42 in the world before the tournament began, but pulled off one of the most remarkable runs the championship has ever seen by beating Ons Jabeur in the final.

2024 Wimbledon Men's Contenders

Newly-crowned world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is the big favourite to win Wimbledon. The Italian has been excellent across all surfaces this year, and most recently won the ATP 500 Halle Open on grass.

Defending champ Alcaraz is second favourite. He has won his three grand slams on three different surfaces, most recently at Roland Garros.

Novak Djokovic is third in the betting. The Serb will be out for revenge after losing in the final to Alcaraz last year in an epic five-set battle.

After those three, the odds drop off significantly. Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev are among the names in the next tier of contenders.

2024 Wimbledon Women's Contenders

In the women's tournament, Aryna Sabalenka was the betting favorite to win but she has withdrawn from Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury. Other retirements include No.22 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and No.16 seed Victoria Azarenka.

As a result, Iga Swiatek is now the outright favorite. The World no.1 comes into Wimbledon on a 19-match win streak.

The 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina is the second favourite while defending champion Marketa Vondrousova is only 12th in the betting.

There's some young talent to watch out for, too.

20-year-old Coco Gauff could cause some upsets in the women's games - so could Mirra Andreeva, who turned 17 this year. The American has never made it to a quarterfinal at Wimbledon but has backed up her U.S. Open triumph with semifinal runs at the Australian Open and French Open this year.

Other interesting long shots are Ons Jabeur, Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys.

Will Andy Murray play at the Wimbledon this year?

Britain's Andy Murray is hoping to be fit for the tournament, to get "a bit of closure" before retiring later this year.

On the eve of The Championships, the Scot gave his latest fitness update. There was good news and less promising news as he continued his recovery from an operation to remove a cyst from his spinal cord eight days ago.

Giving himself another 24 hours before making a final decision on the singles (he is due to play his opening match on Tuesday), his plan was to have more physical tests on Monday morning before another practice session.

Who are the top British players at the 2024 Wimbledon?

This year’s Wimbledon men's draw will feature 12 players from the UK, including two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray (fitness permitting) and No. 28 seed Jack Draper.

Draper represents Britain's best chance of success. He has recently overtaken Cameron Norrie - who made the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2022 when he was beaten by Djokovic - as Britain's number one and is seeded for the competition.

The 22-year-old missed out last year due to injury, but since then, he's climbed into the top 30 for the first time.

The ladies’ draw comprises of seven players from the UK, including 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu and No. 32 seed Katie Boulter, who recently won the Nottingham Open on grass and will be looking to cause an upset in front of the home crowd.

Unfortunately, she hasn't performed too well at Wimbledon in the past, but she is currently in the form of her life.

Emma Raducanu is going to be at Wimbledon this year as a wildcard entry as she has endured some horrible injuries since winning her one grand slam.

What is the 2024 Wimbledon Prize Money?

All England Club chiefs increased total prize money this year by nearly 19 per cent.

The total prize money at Wimbledon has reached £50m for the first time ahead of the 2024 Championships.

The winner of the men’s and women’s singles titles will take home a record £2.7m each, with the runner-ups earning £1.4m.

What surface is the 2024 Wimbledon played on?

The 2024 Wimbledon is being played on outdoor grass courts.
