Stage 10 Favourites
After the first rest day of the Tour de France, we expect fireworks a hilly day through the Massif Central.
GC contenders will probably have a quiet day, but many riders will try to gain minutes and return in the Top 10 of the General Classification.
They will fight with stage hunters for the victory on Tuesday, so our picks will be among riders just outside the Top 10 and breakaway specialists with good climbing skills.
Wout van Aert will be seeking his first stage win this year and perhaps has here a good opportunity. The Belgian could be followed by Mathieu Van Der Poel, igniting one of the fiercest rivalries of modern cycling.
Behind them, there is a plethora of riders that could have targeted this stage: Julian Alaphilippe, Dylan Teuns, Alberto Bettiol, Kasper Asgreen, Matej Mohoric, Fred Wright and Victor Lafay have a good chance of succeeding if they manage to get the right breakaway.
Other interesting options are Lidl-Trek duo Mattias Skjelmose and Giulio Ciccone. they are not a threat for the overall standings anymore and have saved their legs on the Puy de Dome.
Riders just outside the Top 10 that might try to recover time and positions are Mikel Landa, Thibaut Pinot, Felix Gall, Valentin Madouas, Guillaume Martin and Emanuel Buchmann.
Maybe, one of more tiders among them were waiting for this hilly stage.
Dark horses?
The likes of Lawson Craddock, Simon Clark, Georg Zimmermann, Magnus Cort Nielsen, Rasmus Tiller, Stefan Kung, Soren Kragh Andersen, Jasper Stuyven, Alex Aranburu, Krists Neilands, and Nans Peters have been quiet so far. With so many possible contenders, predicting the winner is no easy task.
