TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11 BETTING PREVIEW
The first part of this stage is mainly flat. Then the Lacets de Montvernier (3.4 kilometres long at an average of 8.2%) is a good place to test the legs, with its summit coming after 50km.
After the descent, then come two iconic cols - the Col de Télégraphe (11.9 kilometres at 7.1%) and Col du Galibier (17.7 kilometres at 6.9%).
The Galibier peaks out with 45 kilometres remaining. Hence, if the GC riders start tightening the screws on this climb, the eventual attackers are unlikely to survive.
The final ascent, the Col Du Granon, is a monster of 11.3 kilometres with an average gradient of 9.2%. It goes up to 2,413-metres, which is the Tour’s highest finishing point for 25 years.
With 4 categorised mountains, including two HC climbs, there will be no hiding place on Wednesday.
GC contenders and stage hunters will fight for the win. Of course, how the race unfolds depends on the GC. The key factor will be the number of team-mates left for the GC Contenders after the Col du Galibier.
Stage 11 Favourites
Tadej Pogaçar is clearly the strongest climber in the peloton but he only has five team-mates left and can't waste their energies for a stage win.
Hence, Team Ineos and Team Jumbo-Visma are the teams expected to keep the things tight. they will hope that their captains - Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates for Ineos, Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic for Jumbo-Visma - can trouble Pogaçar.
If the scenario on the Col du Granon will be "every man for himself", Vingegaard is the only rider that could contend the stage win to the reigning Tour De France champion (unless Adam Yates rediscovers his best form).
Anyway, double-team attacks from Team Ineos and Jumbo-Visma are plausible strategies.
Other GC contenders that could surprise the favourites are Romain Bardet, Nairo Quintana and David Gaudu while Alexandr Vlasov is still struggling after a nasty crash suffered in the first week of racing.
The likes of Enric Mas, Rigoberto Uran, Damiano Caruso, Louise Meinjes and Neilson Powless are good climbers but all lack the required explosiveness to drop the favorites.
Dark horses?
Should a breakaway succeed, picking the right name will not be an easy task.
The likes of Thibaut Pinot, Michael Woods, Patrick Konrad, Bauke Mollema, Matej Mohoric, Simon Geschke, Jakob Fuglsang and Gorka Izaguirre are possible escapers.
Other dark horses might be Mattia Cattaneo, Giulio Ciccone, Dylan Teuns, Carlos Verona and Benoit Cosnefroy.
Riders that were involved in yesterday's breakaway (such as Lennard Kamna, Alberto Bettiol, Luis Leon Sanchez, Magnus Cort Nielsen, Edwald Boasson Hagen, Simon Clark, Pierre Rolland, Philippe Gilbert, etc..) are not expected to attack again..
