TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11 BETTING PREVIEW
Despite a mainly flat profile, we have three categorised climbs on today's menu:
- the Côte de Chaptuzat (1.9 kilometres at 5%) after 31.8 kilometres
- the Côte de Mercurol (2.9 kilometres at 4.9%) after 49.5 kilometres
- the Côte de la Croix Blanche (1.6 kilometres at 5.4%) after 118.5 kilometres
The last 55 kilometers are completely flat, so these climbs will only add a bit of extra fatigue but will not change the probability of a mass sprint.
The first three bunch sprints were won by Jasper Philipsen, while Mads Pedersen won the uphill sprint on Stage 8.
Stage 11 Favourites
Jasper Philipsen has been by far the most brilliant sprinter so far, also courtesy of his last man Mathieu Van Der Poel.
His closest rivals have been Caleb Ewan and Phil Bauhaus while Mark Cavendish has been forced to withdraw from the rae due to a crash.
Mads Pedersen has been competitive only when the final was not suited for pure sprinters, so he could struggle again here.
Wout Van Aert has lacked in positioning and was also unlucky in many occasions, expecially in Limogest last Friday. In terms of speed, the Belgian looks the only one able to match Philipsen.
Dylan Groenewegen is rapidly recovering the best conditions but a victory here should be above his possibility.
Dark horses?
Biniam Girmay finished third in Bordeuax, his best performance so far at this Tour. When he is well positioned, he can be a serious contender.
The same applies to Jordi Meeus and Luca Mozzato, respectively 6th and 4th in Bordeaux. A Top 5 placement is an achievable goal for both of them.
Other riders that will fight for a good position (and a Top 5 / Top 10 spot) are Bryan Coquard, Alexander Kristoff, Fabio Jakobsen, Sam Welsford, Corbin Strong, Cees Bol, Alex Aranburu and Nils Eekhoff.
