TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11 BETTING PREVIEW
211km makes this stage the second longest of this year's edition. Furthermore, there are a total of 4350 meters of vertical climbing ansix categorised ascents with the last climb summiting just three kilometers from the finish line.
- Cote de Mouilloux (1.9km at 6.3%, Cat.4)
- Core de Larodde (3.8km at 6%, Cat.3)
- Col de Néronne (3.8km at 9.1%, Cat.2)
- Puy Mary (5.4km at 8.1%, Cat.2)
- Col de Pertus (4.4km at 7.9%, Cat.1)
- Col de Font de Cère (3.3km at 5.8%, Cat.3)
Most of that climbing is concentrated in the final 45 kilometers of the stage, and even if the gradients are not so steep, we expect fireworks, both for the stage win and the General Classification.
A breakaway should escape to fight for the stage win–but with four hard climbs clustered inside the final 50km of the stage, the GC battle could reignite as well.
Stage 11 Favourites
Team Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe wil surely promote the breakaway and Ben Healy, Richard Carapaz, and Neilson Powless are all possible contenders on a stage with a finish as hard as this one.
Romain Bardet — the surprise winner of Stage 1 — finished second at this year’s Liège–Bastogne–Liège, a race with a similar route compared to this stage - and could be targeting a second win here.
Tom Pidcock, Tobias Halland Johannessen, Derek Gee and Kévin Vauquelin are other potential candidates for the successful attack. Among these, Vauquelin has been recently named in the French Olympic team having impressed in early stages at the Tour. He is in the best form of his career and we expect him to be in the mix.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the break gets reeled in, and in that scenario, the current Yellow Jersey Tadej Pogacar will unsurprisingly be the favorite. He will surely put a teammate (probably Juan Ayuso, Adam Yates or Joao Almeida) in the breakaway, so keep an eye on UAE Emirates riders.
Remco Evenepoel is Pogaçar's closest contender both in terms of gap in the GC and in terms of form. His odds are appealing but we don't believe he can drop the Slovenian or beat him in a reduced sprint.
Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard will likely run with a defensive approach.
Dark horses?
If you are looking for more long shots, the likes of Giulio Ciccone, Maxim Van Gils, Alberto Bettiol, Oier Lazkano, Wout Poels, and Alexei Lutsenko look very suited for this kind of route.
Victor Campenaerts, Valentin Madouas, Stephen Williams, Soren Kragh Andersen, Simon Yates, David Gaudu, Rui Costa, and Frank van den Broek are other riders that deserve a mention.
It will be an important day for Jonas Abrahamsen — who’s been wearing the polka dot jersey as the leader of the Tour’s King of the Mountains competition since Stage 1, but we don't expect the Norwegian to win the stage.
