TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 12 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 12 looks like one for the sprinters even if there are a trio of category four climbs that could favor attackers.
The first of the three category 4 climbs begins after 62km with the Cote d'Autoire (2.7km at 5.9%), followed 20 kilometers later by the Cote de Rocamadour (2.8km at 5.8%).
The final ascent - the Cote de Motclerà (2km at 4.6%) crests with almost 70km to go.
The run-in to the finish in Villeneuve-sur-Lot is quite sketchy, and for that reason the organizers have extended the “safety zone” to 5km.
With only one other chance for a bunch spint before the race enters the Pyrenees, the sprinters’ teams will do their best to chase all the breakaways.
Stage 12 Favourites
With the pressure now off his shoulders, Jasper Philipsen is a huge favourite to back up with a second success on Thursday having finally won a stage on Tuesday.
Record stage-winner Mark Cavendish, Biniam Girmay and Dylan Groenewegen are next in the betting. They have already secured a victory at the tour and look the only riders that can beat Philipsen.
Girmay, the only multiple winner so far, is the best climber of the trio and should be fresher than the other contendres after Wednesday's tough day.
Arnaud De Lie finished only 17th on Tuesday but went very close to win in the early stage of the Tour, placing third twice and finishing in the Top 5 four times.
Dark horses?
Wout Van Aert was in the mix on Tuesday but we are not 100% sure he will sprint on Tuesday. His first task this year is protecting his GC team-mate Jonas Vingegaard.Other fast riders that could have Top 3 ambitions are Pascal Ackermann, Alexander Kristoff, Fabio Jakobsen, and Fernando Gaviria.
Very slim chances for Sam Bennett, Marijn Van Den Berg, Bryan Coquard, Arnaud Demare, Michael Matthews and Phil Bauhaus.
If a breakaway will succeed, the likes of Alberto Bettiol, Magnus Cort, Romain Gregoire, Kevin Vauquelin, Stephen Williams, Matej Mohoric and Stefan Kung are the likely contenders.
