TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 13 BETTING PREVIEW
It will be a short but explosive stage on Friday. The first climb to the Observatoire de la Lèbe is a long uphill drag is not tough (16.4 kilometers with an average gradient of 3%), so it's all about the Grande Final on the Grand Colombiere. The 17.4 kilometres long climb to the line has an average of 7.1% but it rises at 9.2% in the final 3.4 kilometres.
Here we could have a double battle - for the stage win and fotr the yellow jersey. Anyway, the two battles can also coincide should UAE and Jumbo Visma decide to control the breakaway.
Stage 13 Favourites
A young Tadej Pogacar won here in 2020 and the Slovenian is the odds on favorite to add another important victory to his resume.
Pogaçar has beaten his main rival, the current GC leader Jonas Vingegaard, in the last two uphill finishes but he was soundly defeated on Stage 5, losing over a minute on the Jumbo Visma captain.
Should a breakaway fail to create a 2/3 minutes gap at the base of the Grand Colombier, Pogaçar and Vingegaard are the two main candidates for the stage win.
No other riders seem able to keep the pace when this duo go full gas. Jai Hindley, Carlos Rodriguez, Adam and Simon Yates have a decent form but they have very slim chances to succeed even if they manage to anticipate the attack.
Thibaut Pinot and Pello Bilbao sneaked in the Top 10 courtesy of two breakaways this week but they can only defend their achievement.
The likes of David Gaudu and Romain Bardet might promote an attack since it's Bastille Day. Other Frenchmen we could find in the breakaway are Valentin Madouas, Warren Barguil and Guillaume Martin while Julian Alaphilippe and Mathieu Burgadeu will proably need a relaxing day after yesterday's efforts.
Any possible surprise?
The final climb is too steep for non-pure climbers such as Mathieu Van Der Poel and Wout Van Aert. They will have to wait for another couple of days before trying to break the duck at this Tour.
The likes of Daniel Martinez, Michael Woods, Giulio Ciccone, Mattias Skjelmose, Felix Gall, Pierre Latour and Matteo Jorgenson looked brilliant in many of the previous stages and will be riders to watch.
Major upsets might come from Mikel Landa, Emanuel Buchmann, Jack Haig, Ruben Guerreiro and Esteban Chaves.
