TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 13 BETTING PREVIEW
Friday's route is filled with short ramps and very few long sections of flat. It should be a good opportunity for the pure sprinters before the riders enter the mountain the next coming days. Anyway legs are heavy, and riders are starting to feel tried.
Hence, since the early part of the stage offers undulations, we should see a group of attackers accumulating a good advantage and try to defend in the final 40 kilometers.
The riders must take on a similar amount of climbing to yesterday, with a comparable 2,000 metres elevation gain. The main difference is that this time the climbs are backloaded.
The only two categorised climbs are the Cote de Blachon (1,5 km at 6.9%) after 127km and the Cote de Simacourbe (1.8 km at 6.4%).
Stage 13 Favourites
Biniam Girmay, a 12/1 and 7/1 winner for our analysts so far at the Tour, will have a great chance to chalk up a fourth stage success on Friday with another bunch sprint finish on the cards.
Jasper Philipsen continues to blow hot and cold, and so too does Mark Cavendish. The former will try to make it hard for his main contenders, as he has good climbing skills. The latter will hope for the opposite - a too fast pace on the short climbs might rule Cavendish out.
Arnaud De Lie finished fifth on Thursday – his fifth top-five finish so far. He is fast but clearly not enough to be a contender for the stage win.
Dylan Groenewegen has already won a stage and has looked strong in all sprint stages this year. With no leadouts able to dominate the race, he has the skills to find the best position.
Any possible surprise?
Wout Van Aert went very close to a tenth stage win of his Tour career on Thursday. His condition is getting better every day, having missed many sprints and finished only 3rd on Stage 1 and 4th on Tuesday.
Another sprinter who is clearly improving his form is Pascal Ackermann, but he needs to be well positioned in the final 300 meters to unleash all his power.
Fernando Gaviria has taken a second place and a third place so far this Tour and could be in the mix on such a finale.
Other Top 5 contenders are Arnaud Demare, Sam Bennett, Alexander Kristoff and Marijn Van Den Berg.
In case of breakaway, the likes of Matej Mohoric, Alberto Bettiol, Maxim Van Gils, Victor Campenaerts, Kevin Vauquelin and Tom Skujins are the possible contenders.
