TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 15 BETTING PREVIEW

Saturday's stage was crazy. Pogaçar and Vingegaard created a gap of over 1 minute on the final climb before literally stopping before the summit. This allowed Carlos Rodriguez to recover all the lost ground and they also allowed the young Spaniard to escape on the descent to Morzine.

Sunday's one is another brutal mountain stage with over 4,500 meters of elevation gain, a number of unclassified climbs in the first part and five categorised climbs:

Col de la Forclaz de Montmin (1st category, 7.2 kilometres at 7.3%)
Col de la Croix Fry (1st category, 11.3 kilometres at 7%)
Col des Aravis (3rd category, 4.4 kilometres at 5.8%)
Côte des Amerands (2nd category, 2.7 kilometres at 10.9%)
Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc (1st category, 7 kilometres at 7.7%)

The finish line is on the top of the final ascent.

Stage 15 Favourites

The profile lends itself perfectly for another showdown between Tadej Pogaçar and Jonas Vingegaard, although a successful breakaway is a possibility given that the teams of the two GC stars should be fatigued after Saturday's efforts.

The time is running out for Pogaçar and the Slovenian can't play mind games anymore. He needs to push and create a gap over Vingegaard as soon as possible.

But the current yellow jersey looks rock solid and his better preparation ahead of this Tour might be more evident in back to back mountain stages. The Dane could have a little edge over Pogaçar.

Carlos Rodriguez took advantage of a "surplace" of the front duo to deliver a major upset on Saturday. He looks the best of the rest alongside Adam Yates and Sepp Kuss, whose main target is helping their captains.

Jai Hindley, David Gaudu, Pello Bilbao, Simon Yates and Felix Gall complete the Top 10 of the overall standings but they can only run on the defensive as they are hardly allowed to escape.

Romain Bardet, Louis Meintjes, Ruben Guerreiro and Esteban Chaves were forced to go home after Saturday's nasty crash.

Dark horses from a breakaway?

Thibaut Pinot, Giulio Ciccone, Woet Poels, Mikel Landa, Daniel Martinez, and Michael Woods were chased by Jumbo Visma all day long on Saturday but they showed good form and we are sure they will try again on Sunday.

Other possible breakaway riders are Matteo Jorgenson, Mathieu Brugadeau, Mattias Skjelmose, Tobias Johannessen, Ion Izaguirre, Michal Kwiatkowski, Maxim Van Gils, Krists Neilands, Alexey Lutsenko, Dylan Teuns, Guillaume Martin, Pierre Latour and Nicholas Schultz.

Tom Pidcock crashed on Saturday and his fitness should be assessed while other riders such as Ben O'Connor, Julian Alpahilippe, Egan Bernal, Rigoberto Uran and Rui Costa are far from their best form or past their prime, and they can ll be overlooked. Stage 15 - Tour De France 2023
