TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 16 BETTING PREVIEW
Given that the tour is not finishing in Paris this year due to the Olympics, sprinters' team will treat this stage as the traditional Champs-Elysees finish. Furthermore, legs will be fresher after a well-deserved rest day on Monday.
The riders, must ace only one 4th category climb, and it’s passed with 76km still to go. So, the route is very flat.
The one factor that could disrupt the race are strong winds, giving Jonas Vingegaard and Visma-Lease a Bike an opportunity to make the GC battle interesting once more.
This part of France has been responsible for two of the most dramatic days of crosswind action in recent Tour de France memory.
Stage 16 Favourites
Jasper Philipsen had a difficult start to the Tour but, after winning his second stage, the Alpecin-Deceuninck's sprinter is being well backed to continue his upturn in form. His lead-out man Mathieu van der Poel should be able to put his teammate into the right position to strike once aagain.Current green jersey occupant Biniam Girmay is his main rival, having already won three stages so far and having showcased the best legs so far.
Wout Van Aert is winless so far at The Tour but he already has five top-six results over the first 15 stages. He could be used in an attemp to shred the peloton to pieces in the wind, but even in that case WVA looks a potential ccontender for a reduced bunch sprint.
Dylan Groenewegen and Mark Cavendish are both stage winners at this race but have both missed the podium in the last couple of sprints.
Pascal Ackermann, Arnaud De Lie, Phil Bauhaus, Arnaud Demare, Fernando Gaviria, and Sam Bennett, and Arnaud Démare have all placed well in some of the previous sprints, but have looked someway off contesting for stage honours.
Breakaway hopefuls?
In case of breakaway, the likes of Davide Ballerini, Anthony Turgis, Brent Van Moer, Laurenz Rex and Jonas Abrahamsen are all potential contenders while Mathieu Van der Poel is likely to remain with his captain Jasper Philipsen.
Other fast riders such as Alexander Kristoff, Bryan Coquard, Jasper Stuyven, Danny Van Poppel, Alex Aranburu and Michael Matthews have slim chances in bunch sprints and could be interested in promoting a breakaway.
