TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 18 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 18 will be the return to flat roads after many tough days.
Two KOM climbs appear in the first 105 kilometres – Chambéry-le-Haut and Côte de Boisseu. The elevation gain is less than 1,250 metres, but there aren't any steep gradients. Hence, the sprinters are expected to prevail.
There will be three roundabouts with 4, 3 and 2 kilometers to, a sharp left hander with 1500 meters to go, while the last 800 meters are completely straight and flat.
Stage 18 Favourites
Jasper Philipsen has been by far the best sprinter so far, having won 4 mass sprints. The Green Jersey has been almost faultless so far, both when fhe followed his leadout and when he managed to find the best position by himself. Philipsen's odds are around Evens, too short to be backed.
Only Mads Pedersen has beaten Philipsen so far, in a slightly uphill finish that clearly suited the former Olympic champion. The Dane is quite good at climbing and might be less fatigued than his direct rivals after Wednesday's brutal stage.
Wout van Aert gave his best in the Individual Time Trial but had a quiet day on Stage 17, meaning he could be fresh enough here to upset the favourites.
Dylan Groenewegen's form is improving day by day and the Dutchman might be a serious contender for a Top 3 finish.
Dark horses?
With Mark Cavendish and Caleb Ewan out of the race, the likes of Bryan Coquard, Biniam Girmay and Cees Bol look the only riders able to fight for a podium.
Other riders such as Alexander Kristoff, Sam Welsford, Danny Van Poppel, Peter Sagan, Luca Mozzato and Jordi Meeus are Top 10 candidates.
