TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 19 BETTING PREVIEW

The sprinters will be glad to leave the Pyrenees behind on stage 19, as the route heads north on flat roads to Cahors.

Anyway, there are 3,114 meters of climbing over 179 kilometers and the uphill finish on a 5-percent grade will suit fast riders with good climbing skills.

The route features two modest climbs in the last 55 kilometres. First the Côte de la cité médiévale de Lauzerte (2 kilometres at 6.2%) and then the Côte Saint-Daunès (1.6 kilometres at 6.3%).

After a fast descent and a flat section, the last kilometre rises false flat to the line.

Stage 19 Favourites

This year's Tour de France is not exactly packed with chances for fast men. Hence, sprinters will want to seize the opportunity.

Looking at the stage profile, rather than pure sprinters, this stage suits riders such as Mads Pedersen, Jasper Philipsen, Michael Matthews and, of course, Wout Van Aert.

Dylan Groenewegen doesn't love uphill finishes while Fabio Jakobsen struggled in stage 15 (a similar stage won by Philipsen) and looked severely exhausted in the last few mountain stages.

Caleb Ewan should be in the mix, unless he has not recovered from last week's crash.

Other possible contenders are Alberto Dainese, Danny Van Poppel, Peter Sagan and Alexander Kristoff.

Dark horses?

Other fast riders such as Hugo Hofstetter, Luca Mozzato, Edwal Boasson Hagen and Andrea Pasqualon will have only Top 10 ambitions while if a breakaway succeeds things get more interesting.

In fact, if the sprinters and their teams suffered in the Pyrénées, they may not have the strength or willpower to control the break.

In a such scenario, we finally expect Matej Mohoric to be a contender. Last year’s 19th stage saw the breakaway battling it out for the win on a similar route. Mohoric left his fellow attackers behind in the last 24 kilometres and he soloed to victory in Libourne.

Other possible attackers are Nils Politt, Jeremy Lecroq, Taco Van Der Hoorn, Florian Senechal, Filippo Ganna, Pierre Latour, Tony Gallopin and Stefan Kung.Stage 19 - Tour De France 2022
